Planning ahead for Halloweekends 2009!

I'm planning on visiting the Point in September 2009 (already have my July vacation booked!), thinking about Halloweekends on a Friday and Sunday. As for Saturday, maybe some nearby haunted locations/attractions instead. Has anyone ever gone to the Mansfield, OH haunted house/prison or hiked near Gore Orphanage Road in Vermillion, OH? I appreciate your opinions, comments, and any other suggestions---thank you in advance!

Mansfield is a good location to go to. Gore Orphanage, it's going to be hit or miss if you can even get down there, a lot of the time they have the road blocked off and if they don't they patrol around down there. I would try Mansfield or an even closer drive go to Berea and they have some really good haunted houses that are better then Mansfield.

Watch football at bdubs or TGI Fridays on Saturday! :)

Put-In-Bay is a nice place to go for a day trip. It is a small town with a drinking problem. I think the number of bars out number the residents that live there. There is lots of stuff to do, and it can be relaxing.

I wouldn't plan on going to Gore Orphanage. I live in Vermilion and "try" to go there somedays and its usually blocked off. But if it isnt, there is ALWAYS some type of patrol car there waiting for you telling you to turn around and leave. I've been in the woods to see the old stones/pillars that still remain, isnt much to see. But I will admit, going at night is always fun with a date!!! haha.

haha someone tell me what gore orphanage is? and why its blocked off.

I think its like Gibs bridge in Toledo but not sure

Here is what the Gore Orphanage is/was. You should have been around in 2007 for the Screamster bus trip we took to go there.

While it makes for a good urban legend (one of the first we learned as kids growing up in the area), no children were actually killed at the site. The orphanage that was there had been closed before it fell into disrepair.

Chris - I'm always skeptical of accounts made by someone who's friends are "Hoss", "Elvis" and "Redneck".

It's just a "whole lotta burnin love!!!!" :-)~ Both for the Elvis lovers and the burning orphanage :-)

I guess there's a legend/haunting in every town, my area being no exception:

I've been down the road at night (once) and that was enough for me. The graffiti in the one way tunnel was creepy, I wish I had brought my camera then.

If you go to Mansfield be prepared to pay an entry fee. If you want to travel far for your halloween scare, go to Sylvania ohio for gibbs bridge

ask me for my facebook.

Gore Orphanage, besides being a waste of time, is pretty much impossible to find. Mansfield is cool. You want a really cool trip, go to Helltown. Just Google it and you can find out all about it. I went there once when I went to school at Kent State. It's probably about an hour or so away from Sandusky. Very creepy place with lots of different things to check out.

Also try Milan Cemetery. Abbott's tomb specifically. Just don't get caught! Haha.

if you look at the map on the site provided by Ralph wiggum there, it clearly show where the road is blocked off, but it also shows a back entrance to gore orphanage road. and if you really want to get there i suggest parking somewhere in the distance and walking through the woods. much creepier that way. and if you brought a date then you are sure to surprise the hell outta her!
