Places to stay at cedar point

Hi all!
We are coming to the point the weekend of july 26th. we heard cedar point was the place to be, our only problem is, we havent made reservations anywhere, and would like to find someplace close to the park or a place to rent a cabin on the lake close by. Does anyone know of any nice places they could recommend to us, any responce will be greatly appriciated, this seems like a great way, to find one of those special places only the locals know about! Thanks everyone!

Personally, I prefer staying on the Point, either at SandCastle Suites or Breakers. On the causeway to CP is Breakers Express and the Radisson. All of the above allow you to enter the park 30 minutes before the GP for ERT on Millennium Force and/or Wicked Twister.

Otherwise, there are a ton of hotels in Sandusky. My personal favorites are Hampton Inn, Red Roof Inn, and the Comfort Inns (3 of them located within 10 minutes of the park).

Hopefully someone more local can give you an idea if there are any cottages/cabins to rent, but it's very likely if there are, they are already booked. Generally these are booked up well before summer starts.
