Pit stop timers in loading stations

Another great idea from the mind of the 'Playa: What if they outfitted the station with giant digital lap timers indicating the current loading time and the best time of the day? Not only would it seamlessly integrate into the theme motif, imagine how people would hustle in to their seatbelts...

An issue of that would be the sacrifice of safety to gain speed... people would be too reckless.

Actually, thats more road course racing than drag racing. Anyone who has ever drag raced knows you sit forever in the staging lanes.

Maybe they could just have a timer to see how long it takes them to fix it when it breaks down. That would be cool to see a uniformed crew race out to the problem as fast as possible with their power tools and a clock going to see if they can beat whatever the record was.

On a bad day, a sundial might be more appropriate....

Frankly, I really do hope this thing has the kinks worked out. I was only somewhat POed to have traveled 700 miles to a DOA WT. An offline TTD would be the thirteenth level of Guest Services Hell.

I believe in one of the interviews it is said that a train will launch every 30 seconds. I was rather amazed at this stat and also very impressed. I hope they can get it all done that fast. With 6 trains I guess anything is possible.

With 2 trains loading/unloading at the same time you'll have plenty of time to get ready in your seat without holding up the launch rate. 45 seconds between launches = 1 1/2 minutes to load/unload

A capacity of 1500 pph would require an average dispatch interval of 38 seconds.

Another similar idea - I think that it would be cool to record an ET for each run based on starting at the green light and ending at the beginning of the brake run. As you come to the unload point, you would see how long your train took as well as the best ET of the day, year, alltime, etc.

Ride is 30 seconds long (appx)...they send a train out every 40 seconds (appx) hitting the interval right. From the press release...

Another factor that this couldn't be is the launch system. It needs time to get ready. I may be wrong though too!

Yeah I have been thinking about the ET thing for a while now... it would be really cool if the track length from the start of the launch to the "finish line" was a 1/4 mile (1320 feet). I think it will be a couple hundred feet more than that though. Still, the ET thing would be sweet.

I think it would be cool too have the whole ET thing too. Doesn't a drag track ET board also show top speed? (even though we already know 120 mph) Playa I think the pit stop idea is great. It would just add to the whole experience of the ride, and I don't feel that it would cause saftey problems at all.

SFON - Excellent addition to the whole dragstrip concept. You would think that for $25M they could throw in a few photoeyes with a timer system and a big display at the end. And just before the brake run, they could space two photoeyes along the track to record the top end speed.

Each rider could also be issued a timing slip like we used to get at the little shack on the return road to the pits. Boy, this is taking me back to the early '70's and Detroit Dragway. Ohhh, this is going to be sooooo cooool!!

oblivon at alton towrs in england has a 30 second load and unload time for its 7 trains of 16 people
