PIRATE RIDE...Look out for the whale

the pirate ride was a one of a kind attraction purcased by George Roose from Freedomland. If you think they shouldn't have taken it out... please post your views here.

When the ride was taken out... it was still ranked number 8 in attendence out of all the rides at the park.

Some people think the Pirate Ride was a joke. Virtual midway has it listed as the number 1 rdie people wished eas not removed.

Yeah, I wish we still had the Pirate Ride. I would classify it as my number 2 attraction I wish was still around, though with number 1 being the Upside-down Funhouse.

8th in attendance! Ha! That's crap, I don't care you are or what you think you know. I rode it a couple of times its last year, and it was a walk-on in July.

While it's fine to be nostalgic about old rides, this one had run its course. Compared to what they've managed to do in Orlando, it was a joke. I don't doubt that it was also ridiculously expensive to maintain.

DELETED!

Of course part of the reason it was expensive to maintain was because of the vandalism. Dark rides are generally fire hazards, vandal magnets, and in general, more hassle than they are worth for a park like CP. That's unfortunate, but that's also the truth.

And the last few years when I rode it, much of the timing was screwed up. Like the squid that would go dark just as it came right up into your face. Whoops; that's not how it's supposed to work...!

Although I rode the pirate ride more when my son was much younger, I rarely rode much during its last years, and I don't really miss it. I think I miss Earthquake and the upside down Funhouse more.

One of the disadvantages to being older is remembering a lot of these rides when they were new and fresh, and knowing how much they deteriorated over the years. Even though they are a bit of nostalgia for some of us oldsters, they simply are not flashy and techno enough to appeal to the young adults anymore.

So... in conclusion, we need a new dark ride!
I think CP's demographics would make a dark ride a liability. You just know the youths are going to cause trouble, get hurt, and then we all know where that goes.
Not true, plenty ob big parks have dark rides, just not those with a possibility of vandalism. Just look at the Paramount parks for perfect examples with their Scooby Dark rides.

Thats right Virginia, I am Santa Claus.

The Pirate Ride was great fun. Sure it was hokey and outdated but that was part of its charm. I disagree that a dark ride would not do well at CP. PKI has always liked dark rides. Couldn't they install closed cuicuit cameras to police the ride? People caught vandalizing any attraction should be thrown out of the park and not given a refund. CP doesn't need guests like this. When you are at an amusement park you are at a special place no matter if it is Cedar Point or Billy Bob's Funland.
The Earthquake Ride, and the Fun House were awesome! I heard the problem was vandalism too. It's probably too much a liability when you can't really lock people into their seats.
I remember people would get out of the "skulls" during the middle of the ride.

Why didn't they ever have cameras?

CCTV was a tad more exspensive back in those days than it is now.

Also not nearly as reliable..

Tag onto the fact that you would need to be using IR camera's because of the darkness factor and back in those days.. it got REAL expensive REAL fast..
