Does anyone know if the picnic area(s) just outside the park will remain? They seem to be quite popular, and it would be a shame to see them go.

They will be altered to accommodate the ride, but will remain.
I just hope they get rid of or fix those God awful yellow triangles on top of them (behind Hurricane Hannah's) and above the main entrance bathrooms. I emailed CP at the beginning of the year about them among other things that need to be addressed for cosmetic reasons. Anyone else notice these?
I personally got a kick out of the artwork, showing the roofs of the picnic areas, all brown, like rust and dirt. Realistic. Them graphic designers are so accurate.
GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.
Well we just have to wait till the offseason tour!

Keeping the picnic areas in the same areas would be nice, and in my opinion may enhance the riding experience. The smell of good food while on a roller coaster...
..making me drool already!

Glad the picnic area will be staying. The apparent lack of them was one of the first things I noticed when I saw the animations.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
The restroom and picnic buildings need major updating. They are just nasty looking. the restroom is just nasty all the way around. To me not to do extensive work on these two structures would just make any work done on a new entrance a waste. Same goes for the patch work quilt of concrete just inside the gate. All pavement from the gate to the far side of the carousel needs to be replaced. Ocean Motion looks great, the carousel looks pretty good the area around Hurrican Hannahs needs attention up to the fudge stand. That restroom building has irked me for years. I'd tear it down and start from scratch.
I agree. If they're doing all this work to the front of the park, it would be absurd to not extensively overhaul - or, better yet, replace entirely - the picnic pavilions. I imagine they've gotten their money's worth out of them by now.

Well the price tag did go up 5 million, maybe new picnic pavilions are on the way! Although the animation seemed to indicate the restroom at least would be the same, though that could mean nothing at all.
True the animation was primarily to highlight the coaster.
Aren't the pavilions made of some corrugated steel of fiberglass matrial. I think the Unibomber lived in something similar. That comment ought to inspire them to fix them up.
The restroom looks like some cheap motel from the late 50's.
