Thanks to Ryan Staab for sharing these with us!
Great photos, thanks for sharing. The 1977 Mine Ride photos appear to show the effects of the tornado that hit that year?

That's what I was wondering.
I like the 1981 photo of the train station with all the trees were the Mantis is now.
Yes. Ryan said those Mine Ride photos show the tornado damage.
I worked the original STR the year that twister hit. The mine ride incurred significant damage. The pics don't show it, but a large tree in the middle of the final corkscrew was toppled and damaged a large section of track. The ride was out of commission for quite some time.
STR also incurred some damage. Falling limbs damaged part of the flume. This damage was more easily repaired, and the ride was back up in a relatively short period of time.
I'm only 15, so I obviously never got to ride the Frontier Lift, but I know that I hate walking from the main midway to the frontier trail.

So, Sherri, are you saying that you want Iron Dragon, Mantis & Millennium Force removed to make for it?
This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!
I'd have no problem losing ID and Mantis - MF? There must be a way around that!
Cedar Point guest since 1974
On picture #13 from the 1977 album, was the Frontier Lift parallel to the first hill of Mine Ride? Or is this an illusion?

Ryan Lovelady (Rotunda_Chllin) was kind enough to send in some of his own photos from 1981. They've been added to our 1981 album:
