Photography Inside the Park

Does anyone know if there are restrictions on cameras (size) you can bring into the park? I have a Canon XTI with a 200mm zoom lens...not sure if the gates will allow. It's not gigantic, but a decent size camera. Thank you.

I have used bigger in the park without problem. If you have it in your backpack, no one at the gate is going to know.

I've entered the park with this monster video rig (scroll down a little) through the regular gates. Nobody cared.

If it's a big camera, you'll have to get a locker. If it's a smaller camera like mine, you can stick it in a cargo pocket. I always button my pocket up good when I'm riding any ride so the camera or the batteries don't fall out.

I'm a huge shutterbug and have taken my Nikon D80 in for shots around the park & beach trails (behind Magnum). They don't restrict you other than you cannot bring them on the rides. Usually spend a week at the park so there's time when I'm tired of riding I'll go grab my camera to walk around and snap pics.

Just be careful of people bumping into you with that lens...keep the cap on and a good grip on the strap. Have fun :)

Jeff - what's that wireless transmitter looking thing on top of your video camera?

An uplink to the Black Helicopter?

think I saw that camera during the press event for boecklings last fall and it was for the wireless mic I believe? I wasn't paying attention though since we were talking to the guests and not the one in the chair getting made up at the moment.

A lot of smaller TV stations are using that camera, yes, because it's (relatively) inexpensive. And yes, the thing on top is a wireless mic receiver.

That's funny... I've been in CP with a Canon ZR500 which is nothing near a professional camera and have been asked by CP Police to STOP recording.

After them asking what I was recording for, and me replying "personal home video", they still told me I needed to visit Guest Services in the front of the park to obtain a Media Pass.

No Joke!

I even emailed Walt that year (2007) to ask about camera policies...

EDIT:

And no, I was no where near a restricted area. I was told once in front of Maxair and once to the left side of the bleachers of TTD. I gave up after that! How embarassing!

So does that mean if you go to Guest Services with a camera, they will give you a "Media Pass"? I don't see that happening.

Is that a P2 Jeff? I think just about everyone is using that nowadays for broadcast... Local TV affiliates, Weather Channel, etc etc.

It's an HVX200, and yes, it uses P2 cards. As skeptical as everyone was about the workflow circa 2006, it really did catch on. It's expensive, but practically indestructible too.
