Photo Album - Cedar Point's Express Hotel

I spent a night at Shore Inn once upon a time. Basically I didn't feel like driving all the way back to Mentor and waking up early to come back the next day. A girl staying with her family at Sandcastle was part of my motivation, so all I needed was a bed and a shower.

When I stay on point, I usually try to get into the LHP cabins.

I think the trendy deal just helps business. I mean, a hotel that looks new/rennovated may have more curb appeal (thought of new sheets/beds/pillows/clean/etc.). Whereas one that isn't as up to date may feel "old." I'd hope this isn't public perception though, as many venues that have remained the same way for awhile do have a charm to them.

I love motels with charm. My go-to Indiana motel is Al and Sally's Motel, outside of Michigan City.

On a trip several years ago with my friend Mark to Holiday World, we stayed at a Motel 6 that was stunning. I've stayed in hotels much further up the price line that weren't as well appointed.

On the other hand, on a recent visit with my parents, we ended up at the Econolodge on Chesterton, Indiana. Long story. Anyway, while they had upgraded to flat screen TVs, they had simply put the flat screen TV in front of the old TV.

In the future, I'll check out local Motel 6 locations, but Econolodge is probably not going to make the cut.

I hope you are being sarcastic when you say Red Roof Inn has charm!

Eh, I see where you're coming from. I agree their rooms & amenities aren't really that great. However I think part of the charm is for quite awhile, especially in my teen years, that's where we all stayed, as it was one of the cheapest places to put our heads down that was at least "decent." So probably a bit of nostalgia plays into it, but at the same time, I don't mind it. Making trips to Detroit for the auto show, about every single time I stay at a Red Roof Inn...infrared heaters on a cold winter day..those hit the spot every time.

Express has the advantage of park tickets, early entry, a large pool, etc. I think most guests with the intent of visiting CP for a couple of days would choose it over the Holiday Inn.
My guess is they'll both do ok.

I think the pool is the only reason I would not want to stay there. I see it as more wading for toddlers.

I think there is value with the cheaper tickets and parking. Parking being a big factor.

I'm going out to get some air.
