Perilous Plunge Incident

What was the Perilous Plunge Incident bec ause someone said something about it in an old thread and i was just wondering if anyone couold tell me what it was and what hapenned?

A lady was standing on the ride and fell out while going down the drop and she died. Since they added seat belts. I'm pretty sure this is what happened.

Seatbelts is a drastic understatement. They strap you in so tight you can't move, and then staple you with a lapbar on top of that. Gotta love it ;)

There were already seatbelts. The problem was that the woman weighed 300 pounds and the restraint was not designed to accomodate someone that large.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/20020601-0143-ca-ridereopens.html should answer the question. I also want to add that Intamin doesn't approve of the new restraint system (the four point harness, it had a seastbelt and lapbars before the incident).

If her waist was 58" and the seat belt was made for 50", why was she allowed to ride?

Yeah, Metallica Freak, that is what I want to know. I know for a fact Cedar Fair is extra careful when it comes to rider safety. Just look at how strict they are about the rules at Cedar Point.
This accident has made KBF employees EXTREMELY safety conscious. Something like this won't happen again anytime soon.
What ride was it?
The ride is Perilous Plunge at Knotts Berry Farm

Does anyone know what happened with the law suit?

Oh i thought they just called it the perilous plunge incident for some reason.
I am still shocked Cedar Fair didn't incorporate new restraints into all of their flume ride like SRF, or at least a seatbelt.

I learned today at kbf park operations (park services, ride ops, parking, admission) orientation, but telling you what happened would totally violate my nondiscloure act. Let just say the child came foward with some crucial info. May I direct you to KBF public relations?

Why would they incorporate these restraints into SRF? If anything, it'd be MF and Dragster that would get them and that would be disastrous. MF and Perilous Plunge are both Intamin sitdown rides and have practically identical restraints. Xcelerator's and Dragster's restrainsts are only different in that the bar is bent so they will hit everyone's lap before their manhood.

That little bend makes a HUGE difference in comfort, by the way...

That’s good to hear. Now the bar can actually touch my lap instead of something else ;)

Does anyone think they will retrofit Millennium Force with the new style bar? I mean ever since Plunge incident the new Intamin hypers like Goliath and Xcelorator have the new style bar. Cedar Point is usually cautious on the way they spend money and something like that could cost a lot. If they don’t think the older style bar is a hazard of any kind they probably won’t.

But... every year they make same sort of modification to the ride

2001-Seats moved up, notch in front of seat added

2002-Seatbelts Shortened, new rules regarding riders.

2003? ;)

Wow, a new ride is being built.

Actually, I would think that Cedar Point is cautious on our safety. If they believed that by changing the bars to be safer, then they would do it, no matter the price.
