people in wheelchairs???

i am in a wheelchair i have been my whole life i have been to cedarpoint! and rode MF, PowerTower, Bluestreak, meanstreak, to make a long story short all the coasters accept gemini and corkscrew and mantis my question is ...

will ttd have steps or will it be down on the ground or have a ramp like Mf i'd really hope so i'd feel really let down not to be able to ride this beast! i feel i really should be able to ride everything accept mantis that i understand but i think if cedarpoint can build a 25million dollar coaster they can spend enough money to add ramps also.. what does others think?

I would think they would. I would be surprised if they didnt. I think that they should make ramps for all the other rides as well. I would hate for some people to miss out on riding some of the greatest coasters.
Everything appears to be low to the ground, as it does in the artist's rendering. I don't see any stairs up to the exit if you do it that way through the handcapped access. I'm not sure about the entrance into the station, but I can say with certainty that it will have ramps. Both of Intamin's other coasters have ramps, so they can cater to as many people's needs as possible.

What is most anticipated event of 2003? the debut of # 16, the release of Metallica's new album, the release of Terminator 3, or the release of Matrix:Reloaded...tough call.

In the drawing of Dragster, it looks like there will be a ramp on the exit. And Im sure that if they don't have a ramp that they will at least have an elevator.

There are 24 hours in a day, and 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?

ANY ride built todayMUST have ramps (or an elevator), but it will probably be the EXIT where you would load from. You may or may not have to wait for a certaint time to ride (you should though, for the same amount as the queue time, or at least get a Fastlane stamp for later-this would cut down on misuse sooo much). This requirement is due to the Americans with disabilities act, which oversees Disabled Access to all public places, except aircrafts (there is one for that though) state parks, and other things that would naturally create problems. As for loading into the seats: I saw some woman at knotts the other day pull into the Xcelerator station (really fast actually-it looked like she was about to hit a wall), and limp right into the train. Besides waiting to tell her to enter, it did not take more time than anyone else, so it didn't create a problem. There is no real step into the car (less in first rows), but the cars have no legroom, so if you don't want to pull a muscle, step on the seats (this goes for any rider-i have pulled muscles in the past). It should be virtually the same as millenium force.

So to sum it up: I guarantee the ride will be accesible, at least through the exit (ramp). Only disney will have accesible queues (for the theming in the queue). The only rides that i have gone on that don't have ramps are Ghostrider (an elevator), orange themed swings at DCA (elevator), and Riddlers revenge. Riddlers revenge has an elevator, but it flooded, and SFMM is too cheap to fix it (Someone should literally sue them, its not right what they do). The best theme parks for accesibility are Legoland and Disney's california adventure, which were recently built with such things as pull out planks for handicapped persons to sign a reciept with, ramps onto merry go rounds, the works. Oddly, even with Montezummas Revenge (no exit ramp or elevator) and the haunted shack (a big no no for anyone who limps or is in a wheelchair due to the slanted floors and narrow paths), Knotts won an award for the most accesible theme park one year.

If your comfertible with your size and disiabilites no reason not ride .It may be a little uncomfetible getting in or out and for few moments during the ride but you can always take a break after to gather your witts. With me its mostly a pot belly(not from beer)but the lap bars on MF where no problem for me .

Maybe a racing style harness could be an answer .

I'm not an old fogey, I'm just an old coaster rider..

You could be the fattest person on earth and fit in the Intamin restraints without lap belt. Not safely though.....
It's easier to tell someone that they can't ride because a belt can't buckle, than the lapbar isn't far enough...

The way the handicaped thing works is, the handicapped person gets a timecared. They go to an exit and get a time. they can only have one time at a time. They go to the exit at the time stated on the card to ride with their group. They don't need an elevator, but in raptor and mantis case, it's a conveince.

Remember, "Being fat can even ruin a romantic cruise"

Cool thanks for all the replys this really helps me out alot the thing with me being in a wheelchair is i just simply cant walk i have great upperbody and with that i have huge arms from lifting myself so transfering from my chair to the ride will be easy i rode raptor i used the elevator than rolled my chair up onto the floor that drops out. got into my cart and the ride op put my chair by them till the ride was over same with power tower Mf i was kinda bummed not being able to ride mantis but i understand its not possible but it sure would be cool!

The only real condition is that your body must be capable of being restrained in the same manner. A guy I knew in college had a fairly regular upper body but his legs were disproportionately small. For that reason, he couldn't be safely restrained by lap bar rides and couldn't ride them.
