Paying respect to lost rides

The tombstones for the rides and attractions that have now been long gone was a great idea and placing it along the main midway will help ensure that people are going to see it. There were certainly some that I did not recognize. But I had to laugh when I saw the tombstone for Vertigo. Born and died the same year- 2001.

On another subject, I see that Geauga Lake's newest General manager, Bill Spehn, still has his tombstone along the Frontier Trail.

The tombstones for "dead" rides were great! And the lady in black... hahaha. :) That was very cool.

What ride are the statues of the couple dancing from? (Image 1795 and 1796) I don't recognize them. Are they just a decoration for the display?

I think they're from Earthquake.

Yes, the couple was dancing in endless circles as paper flames lit by red light bulbs showed San Francisco burning.

CP fan since 68.

I really enjoyed the dead ride graveyard. Since I'd been going to the park since 1966, it was a real memory jerker. And the Schwabinchen lady all dressed in black was too cool.

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

I liked the part in the poem about the rides being to big to bury.

I liked the tribute, but I wish they would have included more memorabilia.

Is the woman from Schawabinchen actually spinning in the display? Also, what was the Trabant? I can't remember what it was and where in the park it was located.

The Amazement Park

A Trabant is like the Schwabinchen, just smaller. It was made Chance, and I remember it being just past the western Skyride station, along with the Scrambler and the Calypso. The crews on these rides rotated positions hourly between rides.

Now I remember, didn't it have a lighted globe at the top center?
Also, didn't the queue entrance have gaudy fixtures on it?

The Amazement Park

Yes it did. It was the standard Chance lighting package. CP (in my recollection) only owned two Chance rides, the Trabant and the Rotor. While Skywheels were later built by Chance, the one that CP had was built by Allan Herschel.
