Parking Security

I went and searched with no finds. Does the parking-lot have "good" Security? My soon-to-be "Car Club" Is planning several trips to Cedar Point! We are all driving our "Club Cars" down from Michigan. I don't remember seeing actual guards just parking attendants.

All I will say is this: Many incidents occur that wouldn't if CP had adequate security.

Well, Actually when I was there last year I saw 3 police cars slowly driving through the lot. I also noticed a camera in the middle of the lot that was moving around. From what I've heard they have an adequate police force!
If you contact the park perhaps they could make special provisions for your club.

This reminds me of an incident that happened to a friend back in the mid-late 80's. "The Club", that steering wheel anti-theft device was quite popular then, and anyone who had an expensive ride owned one.

This guy had a new Ranger Super Cab with about 2000 miles on it. Every time he left the truck, it was locked and had the club on the wheel. He didn't run into the drugstore for a pack of smokes without attaching the club.

One night after work at the local mall, he came out to find his baby missing from its parking spot. He was just about to call the police when he saw his truck sitting at the far end of the lot, obviously not where he parked it. Nobody else had keys, so how it got there was a mystery.

When he got to the vehicle, he saw the club on the seat and a note on the steering wheel that said "If we'd wanted it, we'd have taken it". Sparty's right. No amount of security is enough if the bad guys decide they want your car.

I'm not sure if it was security or what that helped me out one time, but my friend and I once locked his keys in his truck at the CP parking lot. We talked to security and they broke into the truck for us for free. Got the keys back with no trouble, I have a feeling if that happened anywhere else we would have paid for some help or at least waited a while for another set of keys....
It's not the cars being stolen that scares us. It them being vandelized that scares us. We just wanna be able to go back to our cars and drive them home in one piece.

Glad to see you had a good experience...Traffic Operations normally handles that stuff so it was probably them but occassionally security calls in one or two as well...regardless it is just one way in which CP tries to make the guest as comfortable as possible...

Even if you can’t find a security guard to break in your car for you, you can call the police and they will usually let you in your car. My brother left his keys in the car one time and just called the police they were pretty cool about it with him.

In 1991 I had my car broken into in the parking lot. They took a screwdriver and popped the locks out. It was kinda strange going to open your door and there was no lock there!!! All they took was an empty Oakley sunglass case and some change. They could have taken more but they apparantly didn't want the credit card I had in there!!! Cp police came and did the usual and I filed a report for insurance reasons. After all that a car a few rows ahead had the same thing done to it. Again this was in 91 and security there has improved with cams in the lot and more patroling but it's like Jeff Spartan said if they want it they'll take it.

Does CP have "look-out" towers in their lot? I have only been there once but cant remember if they had them.

SFGAm has these towers spread out through their lot. Security climbs up into these towers and have a birds eye view of a portion of the lot to spot trouble.

They also have security driving in their SUV's up and down the aisles of the lot.

Ah, parking lot stories...

Many years ago, my grandparents were at the suddenly-now-defunct Cypress Gardens. When they came out at the end of the day, the candy was missing from the center console in their car, and the loose change was gone from the loose change holder.

It could have been a lot worse. Their (unlocked) car was the only one in that section of the parking lot that didn't have at least one shattered window.

On a related note, if you drive a rag-top, don't ever lock your doors. Whatever gets stolen will probably cost less to replace than the cloth top.

CP has a tower in the middle of the parking lot with a view of the entire lot...the top is mounted with a security camera with a direct feed to the 'Station' so that security can keep track of things without having to have as many people out there...

At any given time there are also several squad cars patrolling the parking lots, as well as two Traffic Operations vehicles and individual Traffic Op employees doing 'rotations' between positions.

There are VERY few breakins in the parking lot and everyting is done to prevent it. Just be sure to lock your car and you should be ok.

It's the walk-by keying and such that I think you'd have to be most worried about. If there are a good number of people in your club, I would suggest watching your ride's in shifts, maybe for an hour at a time or less. Have some snacks and sodas and I'm sure people wouldn't mind.

Jeff, we were just discussing that yesterday. We will probably have to do that. Walk-by keying was the one thing I was thinking would pose a problem. People see something nice they have to mess it up. It was funny yesterday be cause we were in my friends Civic and had UPN 50 on watching That 70's Show and a TTD commercial came on. High fives were flying!
