Parking question

The attached picture shows a significantly large parking area that is unused today.

What is this area and why would they not use it on one of the busiest days of the year? As you can see the rest of the parking lot is basically completely filled. I have never seen them park cars in this area and assumed I would see it used today.

Sorry for the bad picture I captured it from the Dragster Cam.

I believe that is the special extra price parking, but I think its also safe to guess that its not being used because of the fireworks tonight.

It's because the fireworks are launched on the beach adjacent to that portion of the parking lot.

Will There Be Fireworks Tonight?

I don't know if they are able to do the fireworks tonight. According to the radar, it looks like the rest of the day will be a washout.

But according to that webcam shot, looks like the possibility of rain didn't keep the huge crowds away today.

Thanks. So normally that is the prefered parking area? It always seems to stay empty.
