Hey all,
I was at Soak City today and I noticed something different I had never seen before. The parking attendant actually took and scanned my parking pass at the tollbooth. This is the third time this year that I've gone and this has never happened before.
First of all, why the change? Secondly, can I use my pass to park multiple times in one day? In the past, I have often gone to CP or SC and have driven off the peninsula for lunch and then come back. I haven't recieved anything notiifying me that my parking pass is only good once per day, but why else would they scan it? Anyone have an idea?
Passes are scaned for parking now because on certain passes that is the only way to tell whether the pass includes valid parking.

Your pass is supposed to be scanned every time you enter. They are supposed to match the picture that pops up on the screen to the photo on the card, then to the person in the vehicle. Parking stickers were no longer an option for people purchasing a parking pass this year (unless you are a dockholder in the marina), so being waved through the gates is no longer an option.

But yeah... sometimes you get scanned, sometimes you don't. They put in a new system so all the parking stickers went bye-bye. Just expect it every time and you'll be ok. :)
They have scanned mine every time I enter the park. It's actually nice, because they tell me by name to have a nice day, meaning they're actually looking at the pass. I always enter the resort booth, so not sure if the other booths are any different.
Sounds like CP management FINALLY gave into some technology upgrades for parking to get into the computer age at least.
Maybe management (with the help of marketing) finally got a clue when they took over Paramount parks that they could get some demographics on who is really using the parking passes -- plus make it possible to pretty well prevent abusers of the parking passes from getting multiple cars in like they did in the past. ;)
So when are they going to get a better credit card system. I tried once to use my discover card at parking, and will not ever again. It took forever because every other machine in the park is tied to one or two lines, and when someone else makes a request you have to wait in line. Anyway beside it taking forever, I was holding up traffic for what I thought would be a convenience, and since I hate to be held back I refuse to do it to others.

I have a Maxx Pass whose home park is KI, with the All-Ohio parking. I'd been to KI the previous weekend and gotten it scanned no problem, but when I went through parking late on opening day and handed it to the parking guy at CP, he handed it right back. More or less, he told me that when CF bought KI, they stole the technology they had re: passes, only they hadn't quite gotten it working right yet. LOL. But he knew the pass itself was legit, so he let me in.
I went to KI two weeks or so ago, right at opening, and had a similar experience -- they just said, 'we can't scan these right now, so just go on in.' But then, I've been to both parks when the scan system has been working, so I guess at this point it's hit or miss.
At least they're not requiring you to pay and then process a refund when you can't scan; that's such an inconvenience and I appreciate that they figure if you're handing over your pass, it's probably legit.

Say I have the parking pass on my I.D. but i'm not the one driving the car. Will they still let us through or will we have to switch seats before we get on the causeway?

I hope Cedar Fair fixes this interoperability issue soon. The purpose of having an OP on the pass is for it to scan and be able to park at all 3 Ohio parks without hassle, am I right?
When we went down to KI for opening weekend they actually made me PAY to park even though I had the OP printed right on the pass. Although it was a training issue where they were ONLY trained to look for STICKERS, the attendant should have had the foresight to call a TL and ask rather than make me go through the inconvenience of having to pay, get a receipt, then find a TL to get a refund. Hopefully this issue will be FIXED by the time I go down there in a couple weeks or I will not be happy.

I had no problem at KI the second weekend. If I did, I would've made a scene until someone who knew what was going on showed up.

I've been to KI three times so far this season, including opening weekend, and I didn't have any trouble getting into the parking lot. My pass didn't always scan at the park gate, but the guest relations window was right there, and I got right in.
