Parking Pass increase

I see that Cedar Point has released its 2004 season pass prices. And I guess that we shouldn't seem too surprised to see that the parking pass went up from $30 to $35. Most likely, the increase is in response to the Sandusky parking tax that went into effect earlier this season.

Ummmmm, I belive the parking pass is actualy $50 right now.
It's quite obvious that Raptor0137 is referring to the current prices for next year's passes, not the current prices for this year. Besides, I think parking passes for this year are currently $60, not $50.

On another note, I thought CP was going to make it so the guests wouldn't be affected by the parking tax. Raptor could be right with his theory for the price increase, but I don't know.

I should have mentioned that the 2004 $35 parking pass is the discount price when purchased with a regular or combo season pass and when purchased before November 14th. Individually, the parking pass will be sold for $65 next season. I also went with the assumption that most, if not all of us here that have season passes have the parking pass as well.

Even at $35, the parking pass is well worth purchasing. I can't imagine going to the park without one!

I made the mistake of not getting a parking pass this year. Even at the full price of $60, it would have been cheaper for me to get one. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

From Cedar Points perspective, a $5 increase in a parking pass is not much, but it'll generate some money to help pay the parking tax. I wonder if regular day parking will go up to 9 or 10 dollars next year...

How can it "help" pay the parking tax? You charge for parking, you pay a tax on it. By charging $5.00 more only means that the city will get more money from CP. The only ones getting reamed here are the customers. The city gets more money, CP makes more, we lose more and get nothing in return.

I'm not saying its a dumb tax. The fact of the matter is, Cedar Point has to pay it until its thrown out, either by the city or the courts.

Cedar Point is just passing its cost onto its customer, much like every business would. If you don't like it, go complain to the city, NOT CP. Cedar Point's only objectives are to make a profit, satisfy shareholders and provide a fun place where people will spend their money. Pure and simple.

WHAT?!?!??!

Don't we get at least one new attraction a year? 'nuff said!

uh. no. we don't. Only in the past two years has that happened. I wouldn't expect anything big next year...

It was mentioned earlier that Lighthouse Point is going to be expanded as well as new addition(s) in Soak City. There is at least some new attraction each year, lets take a look at them:

1990 Disaster Transport

1991 Mean Streak

1992 Challenge Park (incl. go-carts & miniature golf)

1993 Snake River Falls

1994 the Raptor

1995 Summer Spectacular & Soak City expansion

1996 the Mantis

1997 Soak City expansion, Ripcord & Chaos

1998 Power Tower

1999 Camp Snoopy

2000 Millennium Force

2001 Lighthouse Point

2002 Wicked Twister

2003 Top Thrill Dragster

So that's a quick "basic" overview of what happened in "that" year, but doesn't include money spent on capital improvements, Breaker East & Breakers Tower, Halloweekends improvements and such. So Cedar Point does spend a lot of money every year. It's just that some things are more exciting (obviously) than others. And things such as capital improvements aren't necessarily always as noticeable.

I must have missed the "new addition to soak city" thing. I know they are upgrading the Radisson with a new indoor waterpark, but that isn't Soak City.

I'm actually not sure if I'm going to get the parking pass now or not. I've been to Cedar Point twice so far this year (not counting Media Day), and will probably make one more trip for Halloweekends. That number justifies a season pass, but NOT a parking pass.

Ripcord was added in 1996, and The Swan Boats in 1997. Not to mention all the improvements during the 80's as well.

Keep in mind, with all these expansions, the gate price has gone up every year as well, more than doubling since 1990, when the Funday ticket price was $19.95 per day.

You have to expect prices (including parking charges) to increase to fund these capital improvements.

It's your option to pay these charges to use the facilities.

I'm actually surprised to see the other early-season pass prices unchanged.
