parking lot

i have never taken a one day trip to cp i usually take days. Does the parking lot open at a certain time? I planned on being there close to 9-930 on sunday.

I believe the parking lot opens at 8:00am

Many years ago, I arrived at 6:00am (long night, couldn't sleep, might as well drive) and I was able to park in the lot. But I don't think it actually *closes* due to the resorts on site.

Things may have changed since.

even if i did get there that early i would have to pay the 10 bucks to park.

We did not pay for parking in the main lot.

But again, that was over 10 years ago. Due to security concerns, things may have changed since.

There is generally a cop at the tolls after the parking attendants leave for the day. I'm not sure if there's a certain time that they would frown upon you being there so early, but I'm pretty sure the cops do collect the parking fee like normal.

In 2001 when I first had a season pass, I never bought parking because I didn't know how often I would use it. I found out if you get there early enough, there's nobody at the Chausee toll booth, and you could just drive right in. Not sure if that's still the case. Looking back, the extra sleep probably would have been worth paying the parking fee, which I believe was only $7 at that time.

Once the season kicks off there is a parking attendant that works 3rd shift in the main toll booth. I had a friend that worked that shift out there and she had people get there as early as midnight for the next day. They just collect the parking and have you park in the small lot between the toll booths and the road that comes in from the Chaussee that meets with Perimeter Road.
