Parking

Just an idea/theory. (open to criticism, not sarcasm)
CP is running out of room, right? Well parking takes up about 60 acres, which is a lot of new room to play with. If you divide the parking lot by 4, you get 15. So, why not make a 4 level parking deck? It frees up much space, shelters cars from weather, etc. A friend told me that IOA has this and it is very successful. I know they'd have to relocate the front of the park etc, but if it really ever comes to a space crunch, this seems to be logical solution.

Good idea, you should be head of space management or something at CP, ha ha. :)

I always wondered why they didn't make a parking deck, that would definately free up a lot of space!

Back to the Breakers this summer! :)

There are several issues with what they can and can't build in the area currently used for parking..

Also I think a large parking structure where the current lot is would destory one of the most dramatic first views of a park around.

I couldn't agree more. A lot of the readers here have voiced their opinion of Disaster Transport looking like a warehouse... a parking garage wouldn't help the situation any.

And it also has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I absolutely hate parking garages ever since I saw Poltergeist 3 when I was young. :)

I think the migration of parking to off point would be the best solution. They could easily run shuttles to and from the park. This could accomplish several things.

First of all, it would allow more space on point for growth. The reason this would be done is to give more room for furture attractions without removing others or cramping up current space. Secondly it would provide more space for parking. Face it, the parking lot gets full many times throughout the season. Employees can't park on point during parking bans except a lucky few. Finally, off point parking would reduce the amount of traffic on the causeway. There is over 10k parking spots on point, and the tolls can only handle I believe 1k per hour. It gets messy from time to time.

I just got back from Universal/IOA yesterday, and their parking complex is the largest in the world, (or at least that's what one of their employees told me) The parking was quite a distance from the parks but then they had the moving sidewalks to get people to the parks. I don't know how this would work for cp, but if they did something like put the parkin glot near the marina, off to the side I don't think it would ruin the aesthetics much.

ONE freeway stamp a day... ONE

Even if they make a parking lot that goes one level under ground and 2 above grouund, And make the parking lot take up a 3rd of the current parking lot. I think that would work you fine and it wouldnt really affect anything.

I don't know why everyone thinks the park is running out of room? It isn't. Do you realize the size of the park? Most parks are smaller than CP.

Yeah, I agree with this idea. Off point parking would free up on point land and ease some congestion on the causeway.

Perhaps if only buses were allowed to park on the point, since they are large and some groups need to be able to get back to thier buses throughout the day. Also, those who are staying at the hotels/cabins/campground could park on point as well.

Maybe, instead of shuttles, or along with shuttles, have a monorail system (simular to the system Disney in Fl has). This might be able to move more people, faster.

Of course there are probably tons of technicalities that I don't know of that could prevent such a thing from happening.

Metallica, Magnum and Mountain Dew, and finally turning 21...what could be better?

This has been discussed several times over. They can't build anything in the parking lot are for several reasons.

Most out withstanding the fact that they don't own all the land where the houses are right there along the parking lot and zoning issues would insue.

Then there's the already exsisting land agreements with the neighbors.

Do I chime in here or not?

Parking garages cost a fortune. The reason Universal was willing to shell that kind of money out is because the ONLY way they were going to grow was to do that. It was literally their only option.

That is not the only option for Cedar Point and they won't be in that situation for years to come.

Switching to offsite parking would eliminate one of my favorite CP food stands: Cooler in the Trunk. It would also make it difficult for those who like to change clothes throughout the day, drop off purchases, whatever. I like having easy access to my car.

everything's better with a banjo

Mind you, it can be a long walk to your car if you're parked by the tolls. I kinda like the idea of going out the front gate, hopping on a shuttle/monorail and making a trip out to my car. Seems like it would be a nice breather.

They could build a 4 or five story garage on the site right in front of DT. This would keep the "first veiw" open, and obscure the alleged hideous vision of DT. There! Two problems solved at once. The land owners would, likely, appreciate this. It would keep park patrons away from their front yards. I know I don't think I'd like thousands of people walking by my windows every night.
I miss the tram... Don't you OTT??

Dougster: I'm sure that this "4 or five story parking garage" would look so much better that the "hideous" DT. Right.

and Pete: CP may be bigger than most parks, I don't know, but most parks don't have an almost record breaking number of attractions and a record breaking number of coasters.

If you don't like it, Shut Up and don't get in line.

I know it's not necessary and there are better options, such as off-point parking, but if it came down to it I think I'd enjoy whatever more coasters and rides CP could place in the space they'd save by constructing a garage more than the view, even though it is pretty good.

Yes Rob I do miss the TRAMS...How do you know THAT story?

CP IS NOT RUNNING OUT OF ROOM.

Let's end this now.
