Park Wide Shutdown?

My mom works at Firelands Hospital and they had a CP employee come in with a broken hand. She broke her hand on skyride. Apparently they were trying to get everyone off. They also shut down some other rides. anyone hear about this???? 5/11/01
Winds kicked up yesterday around 6pm.. NASTY too.. pretty much everything went down within about 3 mins.

Standard operation procedure when the wind picks up..

I doubt it was a park wide shutdown, that's so rare it's unheard of. A lot of rides really need to hustle when the winds kick up or else you can have a lot of people stuck, and unfortunately Sky Ride is one of these. Those cabins are heavy, and if you're really trying to hustle you (or your hand) can get caught in between. Ouch!

It wasn't park wide.. but pretty much every ride within MY sight was down. Literally the wind wasn't there and within about 30 seconds, I was having problem seeing because of debris in my eyes as I waited for my corn dog.

Couple mins later, the rain hit and they cycled Raptor through because they had a train of people on the transfer area..

Few more mins.. and everything was back up and running..

Feel the Force!
When driving to The Point on the Chaussee on Friday night, the section with all of the trees on your right and left (near the Lighthouse) was crazy. The 2 ft. water had whitecaps and the trees were out of control. But a minute or two later everything stopped. Weird.

Ah, gotta love Lake Erie weather in May. ;)

*You know you're a CP employee when you can look out the dorm window and tell if the Sky Ride will be operating...*

My wife and I were standing on the shoreline watching a thunderstorm move across the lake yesterday afternoon. Not even 30 seconds after we got back inside, the wind kicked up just like mentioned previously. The lake, which had been like glass seconds before, had white caps. The storm passed 15 miles to the north, but had this much effect here on shore.

Even though the park closed at 8pm, we headed over around 7:30. First ride: Sky Ride :)

Played skee ball, got some cotton candy and rode Demon Drop ... then out the gate before 8 :)

I love how mother nature can give such a swift kick in the*****when you think it's the perfect day. :)
I had just finished watching the rehearsals at the Red Garter and was walking up the trail when the gust hit. It was probably about 40 MPH, judging from the way the trees bent over and the debris flew. The last train full of MF riders went by shortly afterward. I wonder how many of them wished they were wearing safety glasses after that ride?
