Park closes 3 hours early tonight.

So what you're all saying is that, given the chance, you'd stay in the park for three hours in pouring rain to do... what? Ride Power Tower and Iron Dragon.

Hey, if that's your thing, more power to you.

If that wasn't your intention, then I'm not sure I see what you're after other than the idea that you were right and the park was wrong.

Jeff, do you honestly think the park handing out passes in this situation at the gate would have been a bad thing?   Wouldn't you agree that this is better than leaving it to the guests inititiative to seek out guest relations for a pass which many people would not have know to do?  They shouldnt have to, CP should have made it as easy and convenient as possible given the circumstances.
As far as staying another three hours.  Yes, if I drove 4 hours to get there and had committed to a hotel reservation I couldnt back out of I would want the option of staying as I would have nowhere else to go.   Also, if you look back at some of my other posts you will see that I dont think closing the park was a bad thing necessarily, but not extending a visible and easy customer service jesture under the circumstances is bad.
Looks like the forecast is for a chance of rain on friday.  I was planning to go but I'am actually afraid they will close early.   Based on alot of the comments on here I be considered an idiot for going to the park when it is raining or a chance of rain anyway and will get what I deserve if the park closes early.

I never thought this would cause such a ruckus!

I'm surprised they have not banned me from the park since everything goes wrong when I'm there. If they are reading they are like "he was there during the cable snap, he made the power go out, keep him out!"

I rode Gemini more than once during a day.

Speaking of the power going out...

CP had little control of the power going out, much like the weather. Now of course they did not have to do anything concerning guest relations into the matter. I think they went above and beyond guest relations by keeping Magnum and Raptor open an extra hour. they could have very easily just have closed the park like normal which is what I expected them to do. However they did not and because of their Generous actions I has a great time. They sacrificed a little extra money to make people happy leave pleased, and maybe have them come back again.

I still assert that a mass distribution of free tickets presents too many problems.  Season pass holders would get them and could possibly resell them.  More importantly, it sets a precedent that in the middle of summer when rain keeps rides closed for half a day or a whole day...the expectation will be that free tix should be given out.

So if you missed three hours and got a raincheck, what happens if you only missed two hours?  What if you missed an entire day, is that worth two free tickets?  What if you bought a combo ticket to Soak City/CP?  Do you get a free combo ticket in return?

What should the resort guests get since they checked in on Friday night?  A discount on their room?

I think it is easier for the park to just deal with the people at guest relations who take the time to complain or the people who write letters once they get home.  If 5,000 people were in the park and 10% took the time to complain, then 500 people will get some sort of compensation.

The other 4,500 people understand that it sometimes rains on your parade.

While it would be wonderful if Cedar Point had passed out passes, Chief Wahoo has it right.

Being several hundred miles away from the Point, I can't check this out, but I would guess that Cedar Fair reserves the right to make changes to operating hours without notice. You buy a ticket, you're playing by their rules.

Yes, CP can do anything they want.

2hosty1 said... I just want people to recognize that CP doesnt *always* take the high road (though their reputation is usually above average!)

Agree. I think Six Flags WOA outclassed CP in this one. Like what CP did when the power went out, they did not have to do anything either . Both had the same situation. WOA had people standing at the exit gates handing out tickets. Cedar Point had nobody at the gates. I'm not saying CP should have handed out tickets too, and actually I was thinking something a little less would have been nice. Coupons or whatever would cost them nothing except paper and could have went a long way in Guest Relations. Usually they even have people at the gate saying good-bye. In this case they had nothing.

Cedar Points sorry Customer Service ripped me off
Talk about a rant! This is what concerns me...

Worse, at 7:30 as we're walking out the park, they are still charging people $24 to go into a closed park for an hour and half. Talk about ripping people off!

Don't forget to wear your rubbers...cause it looks like rain tonight. And I've told my aunt who planned on driving from Alaska just for tonight it may rain.
