Parallels to Superman?

I'm not just talking about the track color. =P

But has anyone considered Maverick to be Cedar Point's reaction to so many people talking about Superman up at Six Flags? People had been talking for years about wanting a ride that had a lot of quick turns and hills, and it seems like Maverick has answered that call. For how often we talk about CP workers reading sites like this and wanting to provide what people request.. maybe it actually came true again.

CP doesn't answer to Six Flags.

Maverick is the result of adding a new coaster that offers a different experience than what is already available at the park.

During the past five years the roller coaster industry has changed in a different direction. The whole taller/faster stage went on for years, but I think parks hit the point that it is just far to expensive.

The whole launch concept is getting cheaper and it is allowing designers to make much more unique experiences.

To answer your question better, CP isn't following up on Superman, they are really just following the newest trend (which is what the people want).

EDIT: Added a little more.

You'll have to be more specific. There is a Superman ride at most of the Six Flags parks. If you mean the one at Six Flags New England, most of the target audience for Cedar Point doesn't even know the park exists, let alone that there's a great coaster there.

They built Maverick because it's different from everything else in the park, and fairly unique in a more general sense.

Since SFNE is my home park, and CP is my favorite, I've got to chime in here. When I look at Mavrick, I see a very thrilling, exciting, and intense ride. Possibly the most intense ride at CP, but NOT the airtime monster that Superman is.

IMO the only parallels are the designer, manufacturer, and color.

Both GREAT, but totally different.

Tom

Its not that similar considering it is western themed..and the lift hill isnt nearly as tall and superman doesnt launch but i can see what you mean by the twists and turns..i think its just another ride for variety at the park..not that similar to superman.

It saddens me that I'll probably never get to experience Superman at SFNE. It looks like such a great ride. And to compare it to Maverick....or any coaster is kind of, IMO, null and void. Maverick seems to be a new species of coaster overall. I cant think of any coaster out in the world that I've heard of that can be related to Maverick and what it produces.
It IS buckin the trend after all!;)

I totally agree with what you said about everything except the cost. Cedar Point still paid a pretty penny to put Maverick in and it is nowhere near one of the tallest and fastest.

Top Coasters:

I think a good chunk of that goes to themeing. Though the majority is from the coaster itself (LSM's included).

Nor Jr. Gemini

I don't think there's much red on Disaster Transport either.

I have no plan to go to a Six Flag's park anytime soon. Disney, Universal, and Busch have way more to offer and the value seems better. And should I mention that nice small park in southern Indiana, Holiday World is topping my list for my next park to visit.

I travel for the park, not a coaster.

This ride gets back to basics with a modern sense of the launch. It's not about, ooooo 500 feet and ooo 150 MPH!. It's about getting back to basics and going upside down once again.

I think it's perpendicular to Superman.
