Maverick is really turning out to be a huge let-down. The first drop is hardly tall enough to really feel that 95 degree drop and the need for OTSRs is really bumming me out.
The speed isn't that amazing and it doesn't seem all that exciting when I watch the video animations of it on the maverick website.
I really wish project 2007 would've been a 4D coaster instead.
SIGH..... what a bummer.
Shut up. Seriously, just shut up. It's a coaster, be happy. Size and speed aren't everything, and 70 mph isn't bad anyway. I personally can't wait to ride it just cause i love coasters and am excited for all the scenery. And what's everyone's big deal with OTSRs? I thought the one's on kingda ka weren't very restricting at all.
hey marimbit,
it's not cool to tell people who have an opinion in a public forum to "shut up". i think you need to "grow up".
i personally feel that maverick is a major let-down and i've noticed other people on this forum are saying so as well.
OTSRs usually ruin the fun-factor for the different types (weights, heights & ages) of people i ride coasters with in parks all across the country, i don't know anyone who actually likes them...
please, please someone tell me why this coaster announcement is so great ?
it just seems like a fairly normal coaster with nothing all that out-of-the-ordinary at all.
i cant POSSIBLY be the only one who thinks this.
Looks can be deceiving, when was the last time someone rode a coaster with 3 cars per train, it might be cool.
No you're not the only one who thinks this may be a letdown, however it may be foolish to judge until one has actually ridden it. Because it does present uniqueness.
All my life I've been an obese man trapped inside a fat man's body
Complain about OTSRs and then say you wanted a 4D? Lol, get out of town!
Maverick does what a coaster should do...
I think you guys are taking this whole situation bit too seriously. Roller coasters are supposed to be fun and now we're telling each-other to shut up.
When I found out this ride wasn't breaking any records, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed just because I expected something around those lines. At the same time, I'm pretty happy with the direction they went with this ride. It doesn't look like much on paper outside of the scenery, but I'm going to bet that this is going to be one solid thrill ride. An important thing we must consider is the fact that it will not only be traveling at a decent speed before hitting the first drop, but it will be traveling as fast the first drop on Magnum halfway through the ride, following the launch. Regardless of the height, it is going to be a fast ride and I personally don't think an animation of a ride like this could truly give justice to the feeling that speed will give you. Unlike Magnum or Millennium Force, this thing is going to be doing some very tight transitions while maintaining a very high speed. Regardless of the actual speed, I am betting this ride may feel faster due to the nature of the layout and elements you'll be passing by. Six Flags could put up the concept coasters with heavy brakes. With this, I think we'll have one solid attraction. Regarding the sensation of going 95 degrees on the drop, I'm imaging this element will pull some extreme ejector air, followed by a quick slam back into the seat, traveling into the sudden direction changes. As short as the hill may seem, I think this ride is going to be full of forces and near-misses that will leave you barely any recovery time. Because of this, I think it will be even more thrilling than it would if the drop lasted longer. By the time you know what hit you, something new will be around the bend. While I will not know for sure until it opens, I'm betting this ride may be even more thrilling than the larger ones due to the intensity.
Did you watch the same video as everyone else? I'm extremely excited for Maverick. It has was good roller coasters have: speed, airtime, tight turns, interesting and unique inversions, good theming, intense launch, even head choppers. Maverick definatly will be exciting and action packed. There isn't one moment on the ride (except possibly just before the 2 launch) where the ride isn't doing an interesting element. This ride will be far from boring.
As for OTSR, while I was disappointed with them at first, from all indictation from smilar rides, they shouldn't be too restrictive and fill actually allow for moments of airtime.
Don't be upset that Cedar Point didn't build a 500ft 4-D coaster, you haven't even ridden this yet. For $21 mil, there is alot of different things CP could have done, and this was what the chose, I'm sure they have a good reason.

I for one appreciate what they've got planned. Is there other things I wish it would have been? Sure. I would have really liked a 4-D ride, even with all of the mechanical issues Magic Mountain has had with X.
Am I disappointed? Heck no. I can't wait to ride this thing. I think it's about time Cedar Point put in a good, fun ride instead of something to break records.
I got some pretty decent airtime on Stealth at Thorpe...of all the OTSR's I have ridden I would take those. I still wish Intamin would pioneer a new lap bar design like with the Premier coasters, but the OTSRs should not be much of a problem.
I recently attended the Erieview DAFE-ACE-all other clubs event for their final operating day. Many people from these groups were very happy that CP is installing a great coaster for everybody, rather than a "one trick pony," no pun intended. Personally I am excited for this ride and think it will be a great revitalization for frontiertown. I'm sorry your not happy with the new ride but like others said, at least were getting one. Further, at least our park isn't considering closing like numerous other parks throughout the country.
I am very excited about the coaster also. However, I do have my reservations about the otsr. yes, I love airtime... but not at the expense of banging my head everytime there is a change in direction!
Sorry, guys. With all the trips I've been taking to the emo-gency room since the announcement, it was time for an oil change in the WAAH-mbulance, so I couldn't dispatch in time.
It's here now, though. Weeeoooooweeeeoooooooweeeee.
Also, anyone who wishes for a 4-D has obviously never ridden X. What a POS. All 3 years I rode it, even in the inside seats, it did nothing for me but beat the back of my skull into a hard seat and give me tunnel vision and a migraine.
I once rode a pretty crummy ride with these unimpressive stats:
Length: 2700'
Height: 80'
Top Speed: 48Mph
Of course at the time it kicked the crap out of any "family coaster" I've ever been on. This crummy ride is "The Raven" at Holiday World.
Don't judge a book by its cover.

Josh, but I have ridden X twice and consider it one of the best rides ever. What do you have to say about that? ;)
Let me get out my crystal ball and make a prediction. (Dang, where's the 'on' switch? This thing needs dusted.)
Maverick, despite being height challenged, or maybe because of it, will be one of Cedar Point's top stars for many years to come. It will be one of the most beloved rides at the park, a Joe Cool favorite and scheduled for ERTs at enthusiast events for the next decade, right up there with Maggie, TTD, Millie, and Raptor.
I suspect 90% of the people dissing Maverick now will be eating crow after Opening Day '07. The rest are vegetarians.

Man, this thread is like the other awful coaster at Magic Mountain, DejaVu. I could've sworn there was already a thread on this topic. And, the original post wasn't even really about OTSRs. LOL!!
all i said was that I was disappointed. am i not allowed to have an opinion ?
i really appreciate all the folks who posted their personal opinions under this thread without feeding the immature need to bash me. i read them and they gave me a different viewpoint to ponder.
THANK YOU - you know who you are!
LOL - i'm the guy who got banned for saying how disappointed I was about maverick last week, and then got repeatedly bashed (under a different username) by a whole slew of a**holes, with huge chips on their shoulders.
all i did was "fight back" against those who were trying to down-talk me and silence my right to express my opinion and Walt banned me.
thanks. hmph.... cool forum.
golly gee, Wally - i hope you never ban me again from the amazingly insightful forums of pointbuzz !
that would be tragic !
