I'm getting ready for my first trip to CP this year and we're bringing some friends who aren't quite as coaster crazy as I am. So, I'm trying to find a few other activities for us. I've heard they have an evening cruise out onto Lake Erie & Sandusky Harbor? Anyone heard of this or know how to make arrangements? Also, where would we hop a ferry to Put-In Bay (I heard the night life there is kinda wild...)? Or would that cruise thing drop us there and then we could get a ferry back to Sandusky? Any other ideas? Thanks for any help you can provide!!! *** Edited 5/19/2004 3:09:12 PM UTC by Shane Denmark***
ROUNDABOUND.
Put-In-Bay nightlife IS very much on the wild side (think Mardi Gras beads). The best way to Put-In-Bay is via the Jet Express running from Port Clinton. Sandusky had the Island Rocket ferry last year, I don't think they are in business this year, although their web site is still up with old information. Put-In-Bay's official web site is here. You will find an island guide, including travel information.
Put-In-Bay really is a unique place that is well worth extending your Cedar Point vacation to make time for a visit. Although there are some family attractions there, it is primarily a party place that has been called everything from "Ohio's Key West" to the "Disneyland for Alcoholics". It sure is fun though!
I'm writing an article with all types of island information, and will submit it to Pointbuzz. Hopefully, people will find it useful in answering their island questions and give them a taste of what it is like. *** Edited 5/19/2004 4:37:40 PM UTC by Pete***
I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.
I seem to recall that being the best way there, one long chain of boats tied together, hopping from boat to boat to get to pier.
I managed to make it back once since ive grown old enough to enjoy the whole bead thing, had to take the ferry, which is a good thing too, interesting trip back to Port Clinton.
Also, when we go out to the islands, we go to Kelley's Island, which has these weird glacial formations (one of only 2 places in the world) and a state park (good for hiking or camping).
If you have an animal lover, the Safari in Port Clinton gets you really up-close. A giraffe can eat carrots from your hand, and its head will be inside your vehicle window for the snack (which is totally OK to feed the animals, since they sell carrots at the Safari. But buy some at the store and save about $3 per bag!).
Put-in-Bay has nightlife for sure.
