I'm just curious as to how the Orochi Rollercoaster at EXPOLAND is the same layout as Raptor? Isnt there any copyright or anything with rollercoasters? and why isnt that rated a top steel coaster, is it because of the park to go along with it?

Well, I'm no expert, but I think the layout of a coaster is copyright of the manufacturer. Parks just buy roller coasters from them, anyone can build a Raptor model I guess, although it's more common within a chain *cough-Six Flags-cough*.

Have YOU ridden Orochi? Has anyone here? Those polls are mostly conducted here in the good ol' USA, and few if any of us have been to Japan, let alone Expoland. Besides, why is Superman Ride of Steel at SFA ranked lower than Superman Ride of Steel at SFDL?

I understand your point but they have diferent layouts. I was more curious as to why they would let the exact same coaster be built.

What has different layouts? Orochi and Raptor? They are clones. In fact orochi means raptor in Japanese. SRoS & SRoS are mirror images of each other, otherwise exactly the same. SRoS at SFNE is another story, but those 2 are the same. Thats like saying Scream @ SFMM and Medusa @ SFGAdv are different. They aren't, just mirrors. But Medusa @ SFMW, a whole other ride...

Aren't the Batman Inverts all the same too?

Yes, but considering they are all in the same company I figured that was okay

This is one of the reasons six flags does not impress me in the least. The only coasters i look forward to when i go to any six flags, are the coasters that were there before six flags bought them. Just about everything else is a clone from another six flags.

Cedar Fair is guilty of this, somewhat, too. Raptor, Talon, so what? If you are closer to a great ride, just what difference does it make. CF parks (and yes, even CP) are REGIONAL parks. Most of their draw comes from within 200 miles, I would guess.

Cloning of rides has been dicussed to death here before. Let that argument die again.

Orochi is almost identical to Raptor. Yes, it's the same layout, but the straight section of track after the first loop is significantly longer to accomodate the pools that are below the ride. There is a picnic area underneath the coaster's left side. It's pretty odd. That also explains the extra track length found on RCDB.com. Most of those crappy pics are mine.

Happy? :)

According to rcdb, "Orochi is a mythical dragon with eight heads." Not raptor.

Orochi means Raptor in Japanese? What?

Orochi is a mythical Japanese dragon with eight heads. I know, I saw him fight Godzilla. ;)

Mr. Scott -

Have you ridden Talon? Talon is no more a clone of Raptor than Great Bear, Montu, Alpengeist, etc. It's got a much smaller footprint, different elements in different order, and is just a tad more intense, IMHO.

I've never understood the "I hate clones" thing anyway. If it's a great ride, I say build 'em everywhere!

I would have no problem with a clone of SFNE's Superman or or Holiday World's Raven at every park I visit.

Yeah, give me Legend in place of Timberhawk, and this northwesterner is a HAPPY fellow.

At least you have Raptor, for God's sake. I've been fortunate, though, in riding both. They are both equisite rides, but after last May, I'd give the nod to Raptor, only because it was running trimless. :)

The only way to understand clones is that the rides are already designed so they are cheaper, I think. Sure they have to custom the supports so that they match to the parks land.

There are more clones of the Coney Island Cyclone out there than there are Elvis impersinators in Las Vegas. Now if we could only get a Crystal Beach Cy-CLONE.... :D
