I reckon it's due to staffing issues. In other words, let's not burn out a bunch of new employees with 12-14 hour shifts on the first weekend. Low and slow.
Just my guess. I wasn't there either, so it can't possibly affect me. (Although I considered driving up there today just to see construction with my own eyes. Turns out it might not have been a bad choice.)
The website originally stated they would be open until 10 PM on Saturday, but the week before it changed to 8 PM, which I assumed was because of the forecast. The rain held off much of Saturday but did start to pour just after 8 PM when we got off the last ride of Valravyn, so good timing. But then we were surprised how many things were closed; rides, coke freestyle locations, various food locations. I was looking forward to trying some of the new meal deal items, such as the wraps from CJ's, mac and cheese bowls, shredded chicken/beef/pork sandwiches, but none of that was available. I'm not sure if it was staffing problems or just poor planning. It does look like line jumping is already a problem this year. People, please speak up when you see it because it seems the more they get away with it, the more it increases. Here's hoping things go a little better this coming weekend.

I tried that at Magic Mountain once, but the other 15 people in his group cut in front of everyone anyways.
I had an incident at Carowinds a couple years ago where the older of a group of teen to twentysomethings were cutting in front of everyone in the Fast Lane line and stopping to take selfies when they were at the top, so proud of themselves. When they tried it a second time I went to an employee on the platform and informed him. He confirmed from others in the front of the line what I was saying was true and they were made to leave the line, but not before threatening violence at me. I didn't flinch and told them to bring it on. They didn't. I will not tolerate it at all this year. To see it happen so blatantly already is just putting me on the defensive, though I should be able to relax in line instead of making a human barricade to prevent these losers from passing.
Not only is it not a deterrent since they didn't bother to wait in line at all, they're supposed to be removed from the park. And on top of that threatening physical violence to another guest for pointing it out to an employee should get them arrested and charged for disorderly conduct at the least. The park needs to take care of this problem.
In my experience this is rare at CP, but pretty commonplace at SFGA which is one reason why we drive past it on our way to CP and don't stop.
