Opening Weekend 2011 Questions

My stepdad and I are considering going to cedar point on May, 16, 2011. I hear Sundays aren't busy, but does it being opening weekend change anything? I went last year on a Sunday in June; will it be better or worse (crowd wise). How long should I expect to wait for rides like the Maverick

Well, the 16th is Monday, not Sunday, so I bet you ment the 15th. Anyway, you would probably be better coming on Sunday. Since most kids are still in school, people would be heading home Sunday, and the park hours are shorter, 10AM-8PM, instead of 10AM-10PM. Everybody's going to want to be riding the new Windseeker ride opening day. So, come to CP Sunday, and have an awesome day!!

It's hard to say right now but from past experience, it's still hard to say. ;)

But usually it isn't THAT bad. Monday will usher in the start of school trips and last years first Monday was really packed compared to past years. Though there's also some schools that will plan their trips on the weekend so don't hold your breath on there being light crowds for opening weekend. May is still the month for the lightest crowds.

I have been noticing with the last few years that I has increasingly gotten busier and busier. I think it is because everyone thinks this way.

I agree the crowds in May have continued to grow each year. Many many school field trips, which can be very difficult to tolerate because many groups are quite wild once "set free" in the park. The park will be less crowded on the Sunday than it would be Saturday for sure but it will still have a larger crowd than a normal Sunday probably.

Not to mention last year's opening day weather was nothing short of beautiful.

I would recommend coming that Sunday the 15th instead of Monday. That Sunday has been a lighter crowd from what i remember working the past two seasons. That week starting Monday usually has a lot of field trips and large groups.

In any case it is near impossible to predict attendance at CP. If opening day has bad weather then expect Sunday to be busier than usual, but in perfect conditions Sunday would be the best choice.
