Opening Day woes

Is it me, or does anyone else feel like CP was slightly sub-par this year in terms of having things up and ready for opening day? Perhaps this isn't all unintended as this is the first time in a few years where they have the week afterwhich to attend to problems and get things ready for the full time (open every day) that begins next weekend?

I wasn't at all disappointed. The only thing I can really rag on them for (not including the Magnum fiasco, of which I had no part), is that Millennium Force didn't have three trains. Other than that, I found everything to be going pretty well, especially considering that the off-season was significantly shorter this year.

I have to agree Jeff,

No problems here but the MF train thing and a slight personal pet peve about people not stopping from walking in the park while the national anthem was playing..

But that's just me and we've all gotten into this dicsussion before.. ;)

Was it played just once or many times?

If more then once, well then I can understand. Who wants to stop everytime the song is played on a loop?

If not well, that's just their choice.

It's only played once, at the beginning of the day. Like it's THAT hard to stop and face the front of the park until it's over.

I must be easy to please. I had no problems either, but this was my first opening day, so I kind of expected a few "glitches". The MF train and the magnum fiasco were only slightly irritating, along with the web site saying ERT started at 9:30 am (and i checked the night before to make SURE I had the right time) and then getting to the part at 9:25 to find people were already in the park riding WT and MF

added to that list are the following:

no popcorn chicken this year

no gum

no logos on MF trains

pop at 3.00

parking at 8.00

tickets at 42.00 there fore making the season pass worth it even more

--just my two cents--

I was almost to WT before I even noticed the National Anthem was playing. Darn, I thought all those employees were saluting me :) I figured if they wanted us to pay attention to it, they wouldn't have let us in the gates until it was over.

CoasterMonkey: Don't give me that crap, they play the national anthem in the morning when they first open the gates. At 9 for Joe Cool Club and such. You can't ride anything yet anyway, ESPECIALLY since all the ride ops have to stand at attention facing the front of the park as well.

I don't really know where people got the idea that Joe Cool ERT was at 9:30. It says on the website that gates open to the public at 9:30. Joe Cool Club allows you to get in a half hour before the public. It was exactly how I expected it to be. In fact, I'd have been disappointed if I (too cheap for Joe Cool and coming from New York) didn't get in until 10. I don't really like the flexible gate times, but that's the way Dan Keller wants it I guess. Personally I think they ought to just make it 9:30 (9:00 for JCC) every day to avoid confusion of guests and employees. To me, there weren't any issues on this particular day with this.

Magnum was a mess and I'm sure they'll take care of that. $3 soda was a disappointment, along with no logos on MF, missing yellow train and lack of station music and bad spiel.

Other than those issues, I was very impressed with opening day. The crews were moving very well and they'll only get better with a bit of time. I was happy they ran 3 trains on Magnum and Raptor.

Edit: I also agree with you guys about the national anthem. Nothing pisses me off more than people talking through it or just going about their business. I didn't notice what happened at CP because I was at the Oceana gate and everyone was pretty much paying attention there.

But.. people might get in front of me and then.. I'll have to wait more... and.. and.. I neeeed coasters... I need them or I will explode. That happens to me sometimes.

And, to be serious for the first time in this thread (i.e. I was attempting humor the first time), I don't necessarily see any inherent value in paying respect to your country if you don't feel it deserves it. The national anthem is just a symbol. I'm sorry if you feel disrespected if someone else doesn't hold that symbol in reverence, but the very values that song is inspired by give people the right to not care.

That said, I actually pay respect to the national anthem because it espouses the part of America I think is worth respecting... our early struggles against tyranny and the pride in the formation of a free nation. But I don't expect people to have that same respect nor do I care if they don't.

This is an issue near to my heart because many of the people calling for my respect at the national anthem also call for my recitation of the pledge of allegiance, something which I refuse to do.

But yeah... since you called me out, I figured I might as well explain myself fully and also explain that I was merely joking the first time but that I don't like the line of thinking that people are being disrespectful if they don't face the flag or pay reverence during the anthem.

While I don't disagree regarding the anthem thing, just remember that it ironically enough represents the right to ignore it. God bless America. :)

Overall I think the positives ouweighted the woes:

The paint job in the Iron Dragon Station.

The new Garlic Fries

The improvements to Disaster Transport

The new and improved JCC ERT

Blue Streak - enough said-

The single painted column in the Mantis station

The nice landscaping around the new fence across from Magnum

The newly painted train stations

The Reese Cups inside the magnum line

The new yellow and bug free harnessess on mantis

No more trim on the first drop of Mantis

The new MF and WT park flags.

I could go on

What do you mean no gum? Sold in the park or allowed?

Didn't anyone notice the new landscaping? I thought the park overall looked great.

Well since I have worked there they never sold gum in the park... saves us a little cleaning in the long run...

My pet peeve is people who've never put their life on the line for this country telling me how to behave during the national anthem.
