Accuweather has 72 degrees and partly sunny. That would be great, but don't hold your breath on any of those forecasts being accurate this far away.

The only thing other than CP that Steelers and Browns fans agree on

If someone could kinda give me an answer from the past, that would be great. I have never gone to CP on opening day, especially for park's open. Has opening day been swamped in the past, with the exception of last year, of course, due to TTD? What have past opening days been like when there are no new coasters making their debut?

1CP, there's another thread which answers that question pretty well

I've been watching the weather for CP on weather.com and by the looks of it (based on the movements of the warm fronts and blah, blah, blah) I dont think the weather is going to be bad at all. BUT as unpredictable as the weather is you can never guess right. More than likely the weather WILL change, hopefully for the best.

Even if the weather is predicted to be warm, I'd count on Lake Erie and her breeze to make things a little on the cool side no matter what.

Also, dont forget that Lake Erie can also build up mointure in the clouds causing it to rain. But that also depends on how much moisture is in the air to start off with.

Well, now looking at the weather channel it looks like we will be battling rain and thunder storms the whole opening weekend. Hopefully it will just blow off. Not really looking forward to a rainy start. http://www.weather.com/weather/local/44870?lswe=44870&lwsa=WeatherLocalUndeclared
I don't care about the weather. I just want to be there.

I plan one of my vacation weeks around opening week so I can enjoy the lower crowds and get over my off-season doldrums.

Yeah i agree that just being there is half the fun, but i was also really looking forward to getting on something rather than getting wet all day. Looks like from this mornings forcast that it has gone from bad to worse.
The problem with the forecast now (screw it) is on saturday there will be a cold front disecting somewhere across central to northern ohio. South of the front temps should be in the mid 80's with scattered T-storms and a nice southerly warm breeze. Less likely of an all day rain event. North of the front your more likely to see a nice cold northerly wind off the lake temps in the upper 60's to low 70's. Temps will vary depending on cloudiness and wind direction. (and where the front is.)

What would suck is if the front is south of us on saturday, which it most likely will be, a steady line of rain forms on the north side of it and just moves along it all through sandusky. (which the possibility does exist now). Best thing we can all hope for is that stupid front to get it's butt north like in northern michigan and we get sun and 80's. Yeah right we live in ohio. HA.

Ok time for our online GTTP meteorologist Gemini to clarify. ;)

Hooper summed it up well. It's probably going to be 15 degrees warmer in central Ohio than in northern Ohio on Saturday. We could very well see a wide temperature swing, with a 65 in Cleveland, 75 in Columbus, and low 80's in Cincinnati.

It really all depends where that front goes. It's a pretty tricky forecast. There are two computer models that have a difference of opinion - so to speak - on what's going to happen.

With that front hanging around, there's probably going to be a chance of rain all weekend. I wouldn't worry about it too much, though. There will be plenty of 'dry' to be had.

Hey is there a website that shows the three computer models NOAA uses? (thinking in my head now better goto NOAA's webpage and see).

Hi:

Uh, I looked at the map wall, and I think my horse lost. Quite complex looking. At any rate, I've got my car packed with towels and waterproof boots. I'll go assuming it'll be sunny, and throw a jacket on if it isn't. Not a big deal.

So what really has me worried? The soundtrack on the 'trail' this year. (:

Ok it appears I have found the 3 computer models. ETA, AVN, & NGM, then there is a consensus of all three. The model for Friday for precip is here The model for saturday precip is not working now or I can't get the pics to load. Here is the precip for now through saturday, except the computer pics are not loading for saturday. As you click on the second link you see F12-F60 (top left of page) which are the days/hours of the precip forecast. When you move along the F keys you can see the three models don't agree as we move into the weekend. It shall be interesting. Another map. From that data I can see the front sitting somewhere over northern Ohio.

Or so I think that is what that means, boy are we ever off topic. edit [or I should say off TOS]. But thanks for the links Walt...and correct me on above if I'm wrong.

Well, I never look at weather reports because it seems they are always wrong and it's always been easier for me to just look outside to see what the weather is. But I did look at the forecast for the weekend today, and now I'm wondering (because I am weather forecast ignorant) what is the differance between isolated thunderstorms and scattered thunderstorms?

Walt, correct me if I'm wrong, but Isolated means one storm Isolated as one cell moving through part of an area whereas scattered means several small storms popping up wherever the conditions are right

I might be wrong but that's what I think the answer to your question is

Go Pistons

Gemini's avatar
It's related to how often they will occur over the forecast area. I believe the official National Weather Service definition is ...

isolated - thunderstorms covering less than 15% of an area

scattered - thunderstorms covering 25% to 54% of an area

There's a web page out there somewhere that has all the official meanings for partly cloudy, scattered showers, etc.

As for the weekend, it certainly appears that the models are favoring warmer temperatures. I wouldn't be surprised if the Point pushed toward 80 tomorrow. The bulk of the precip should stay to the north. Still, there will be the risk of some rain through the weekend.
