Opening Day Photos

I made it out to the park yesterday, and took some pictures. I had a connection and was able to be one of the guests that was there at the Grand Opening ceremony, so I have pictures of the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Sorry there aren't more pictures of the rides and rest of the park, but the person I went with fell ill at the hand of the Head Spin :o)

Nice pictures, Jeff.

It almost looks like Geauga Point. :)

Any guesses on how long it will be before the Villain queue is turned into the standard stainless steel rails?

It's really, really weird seeing people like Bill Spehn and Dick Kinzel in that park.

What time does the water show start?

I hope they change X-flight's queue before they do Villain's. You can lift the rails right up out of the ground.

What they should do is put some trash cans in Villain's queue. There was one that I saw. No trash on the ground though, but it was a slow day.

Someone mentioned needing benches along the boardwalk. Benches? How about trash cans? I walked the whole way wanting to get rid of an empty bottle I had. The only place to toss it was into the water. I didn't though.

I noticed the lack of trashcans on the boardwalk also, but give them time, there's only so much that can get done given the time they had.

Jeff Young,

I worked Head Spin that day, though only during parts. Anyway, so it was your friend that soiled the area outside our ride? ;).

Hope you enjoyed Opening Day!

Yes, it was my friend who soiled the area outside Head Spin, but I'd like to point out that as a good guest to the park, I told one of the ride ops that she had done that, so they could get someone over there to clean it up. A good guest is one who helps keep the park clean. I know better now though to go to amusement parks with her, so there was still a good lesson learned anyway. :o)

Opening day in general was pretty good, though I wish I could have stayed longer. However, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was fun to watch, and I actually got a small piece of the original ribbon that they cut. I will be framing it with a park map and my VIP Guest badge. My friends all think I'm weird, but oh well.

Excellent pics Jeff! Looks like the park is headed for an...interesting season.

I hope to be over there at the end of July!

It does look wierd having CF style signs all over the park....

My vote for the most outgoing and friendly ride op at GL on Saturday: Avalanche Sam who literally bounced when we met.

I'm afraid I don't know the name of the fellow who was off shift and rode with TheRealCP and I on the last train of Dominator. He's one of the guessing game guys. He also gets a high mark from me. After the ride TheRealCP asked him to guess our ages, and he guessed my age as 29!

OldCPer,

Didn't I tell you your name on here is wrong? You are far too young! Anyway, I was really pleased to meet you, and I passed on to people in park services that people were commenting on how clean the park was.

I love meeting other enthusiasts, though it is hard to beleive Headspin was your first Boomerang. Anyway, I am a very outgoing person, so much so, that I get really annoying really fast. But I sincerely was really glad to meet you, and I hope I can work to make Geauga Lake worthy of its original name.

Seeing the smiles on all your faces was what made my first day so much fun (when I was on the ride, and not cleaning), and I can't imagine a job any more fun. Sunday was bad because we had almost no guests, but I was able to leave early and play in the park some, which was fun.

If anyone has a video of the ceremony, could you please post it somewhere? I had to be at my ride, so I couldn't watch.

What I want to know is where I can get a pair of those huge scissors! Those things look like they could do the side a hedge in one cut. :)

Good photos.

Will Foamy become the next Strong Bad? I guess we will find out...

Caution: Foamy isn't quite as "PC" as Strong Bad.
