OnPoint! and photos

So, this is kind of weird. On both my girlfriend's laptop and my laptop, we have issues seeing the pictures that are posted on the OnPoint! blog. These issues take place in both IE and Firefox. It is also worth mentioning that both of these browsers work fine with OnPoint! on my desktop computer. My laptop is a Gateway Tablet PC and hers is just a Dell that is a couple years old. Has anyone else ever had issues like this?

Thanks!

Not sure. Might be something in the settings on both those machines. I have no problems in either FF or IE.

I had the same issue. McAfee Security Suite was the problem. I'm pretty sure it was the firewall that was blocking it. There's a couple other sites that have the problem as well. I'm currently using a free virus protection until I can find another one I like.

So....I use McAffee Security Suite on the desktop as well. However, I had a problem installing it on the desktop-I still don't have the Privacy Service installed on the desktop-I wonder if that's the issue?

Hmm.

That could be it. All I know is that the moment I uninstalled it, I was able to view the pictures.

Well, for me I very rarely can view the photos the first time I view the page, but for some reason if I click "submit comment" I can view them. Refreshing doesn't work, just acting like I'm submiting a comment works for some reason.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

^That trick worked only a few times for me.

Works like a charm for me. It does get annoying...but, I'll deal with it.

As opposed to completely uninstalling your AV suite, you could simply "unload" it (or whatever term McAffee uses for turning it off) when you want to view the site. If that doesn't work, then you know that its not the AV/FW program.

Alternatively, you could uninstall the firewall portion of the McAffee suite and use SP2's built-in firewall. Better still, download Microsoft's OneCare Live security suite, which is even better and easier to use.

Even better yet, Download and install Slackware Linux. :)

Do those 'security' programs for windows do anything but annoy you and hit you in the pocket book?

Actually, Ben, they're both very free. Although OneCare will eventually cost something once its out of beta.

ADDED
And OneCare is actually very good. Its unobtrusive, easy to set up and pretty seamless once everything is all configured and such. Plus, the fee (if what I've heard is correct) will be very competitive with the competition, such as McAffee, etc.

So I disabled the Privacy Service on the laptop and the photos loaded fine. I wonder what Privacy Service has to do with viewing photos on a website?

Photos can invade your privacy.

A Mac will solve all your problems.

I'm not going to sit here and defend XP or praise the Mac, but that's misleading. I have XP and I pay for none of those things. I use a freeware AV protection, XP has a firewall, there's more than one free adware/spyware solution, and IE and Firefox both have built in pop-up blockers.

If you guys found out that Holiday World used Macs exclusively, your heads would probably explode.

I like Macs, and I'm about to become Microsoft Certified, in a couple of different areas. :)

That won't stop me from purchasing a Mac someday.

What Walt said on the AV and firewall stuff is very true. I'm about ready to tell my mom to cancel McAfee and I'll download something that is just as good, if not better. Of course, I get blamed if anything goes wrong, it can't ever be the machine being a stupid machine that, being something mechanical, will screw up some time. And then she never does anything wrong either...it drives me off the wall, especially when its her having all the bad luck with the PC.

End of rant.

End of rant.

Can we start a rant about people who do this? Because there's just something about that phrase and all of its variations that is no longer amusing.

Not aimed at you BS64, yours is fine - but too many people around here have been "ranting" about stuff like seatbelts so much that I just want to poke them in the eye with a hot stick.
