OMG 10/12/2013

The causeway is two lanes on each side. Is it feasible to say that they should switch it to 3 in, 1 out when the park is filling up and 1 in, 3 out, when the park is letting out? In that scenario, you could find 1 or 2 more ways (booth lanes perhaps) that which the traffic can filter out of the lot.

Might be an option for crowds like last Sat. but these crowds probably are only a few days in a season. Will be there the last weekend, anxious to see what kind of crowd there will be on Sat. Probably depends on the weather.

"And, at the end of the day, when the lot’s all full… and everybody’s fighting to get out of here… we’ll be the first ones to get out, too, right! Why? Because we're the Griswold's!"

That was great!

Communication would have gone a long way. I saw a lot of comments from people saying they couldn't find out what was going on, especially those trapped in the back parking lot. They'd get a hold of someone on the phone or see an officer and nobody had any answers for them or, in their words, "played dumb" and acted like they had no idea there was a problem. It might have been a little less excruciating waiting until 3-4 am knowing what was happening than not. I do believe CP was underprepared for that day, not just traffic but food and restrooms, but I also think that what left a bad taste in the guests' mouths is that they felt they weren't respected enough to have been given any information for hours.

Hilarious video 3snoH un=1! Did anyone make it up Sunday the 13th? Looked pretty crowded but not a total slam.

On days of extreme crowds they need to open as many causeway lanes out of the park as possible. There always needs to be one lane into the park for emergency vehicles and access to businesses and whatever else. One thing I don't think I've seen mentioned is traffic police. Just like in the city at rush hour and after sporting events. They need to be placed at key intersections along the causeway and Cleveland Road. A large part of the traffic problem is the light at Cleveland Road. Often there is little traffic on Cleveland Road and the CP traffic is held up with a red light when it could be turning onto Cleveland. Traffic police can direct the CP traffic off of the causeway disregarding the light cycle and make for more efficient traffic flow. They may even control the traffic signal itself. There needs to be at policeman at the Chausee exit to Cleveland Road too. Even if CP needs to pay for the police on these occasions the cost is minimal compared to road construction.

One other comment I'd like to make is I don't think that many people who don't frequent parks or the various forums realize just how busy it gets on certain Saturdays. They just see a good forecast and decide to go to the park. I'm sure most people know Saturday is a busy day, but beyond that I doubt people do research. Saturday is the most convenient day for many people which is why it's always the busiest day. I've seen lots of negative comments directed at them on this thread and it isn't really fair.

To damn funny......

I'm sorry, but I must comment without reading all 6 of these pages. If you're going to blame Cedar Point for the "miserable" experience, that is absolutely absurd. You're the one that took the family to the park on a beautiful Saturday, had to sit in that much traffic on the way into the park still at 3pm, and hardly got on many rides, what the heck are you going to expect? Walk ons? I'm sorry once again, but you had every opportunity to turn around right there on Cleveland Rd. or the causeway, just as much as the park had the opportunity to turn away season pass holders, or turn away people when they're parking on grass. Cedar Point is a business! Of course they aren't going to turn you away when the capacity limit wasn't yet exceeded. YOU'RE the one that paid $15 to park in the grass. YOU'RE the one that paid admission. YOU'RE the one that sat in traffic all that time going into the park. YOU'RE the one that still entered the park and stayed until or close to closing time. YOU'RE the one that created the miserable experience.

As for the traffic jam on the way out, from my understanding, there were way too many idiotic people either not paying attention, causing accidents, or just straight creating a scene because they didn't want to take the chaussee home. Quite frankly, once you got past the toll booths, the traffic jam no longer existed.

Saturday's crowds had absolutely nothing to do with Cedar Point. For crying out loud, it's a peninsula with only 2 options in and 2 options out. I agree they should have had 3 lanes in and 1 lane out during the day, but at night, they also had a designated walking lane for employees who left their car in the parking lot. Also, there were people parking off point and walking the causeway into the park. At that point, something would have told me to turn around and go home, and not put myself through such a "miserable experience" at the park.

Once again, I'm sorry if I come off harsh, but let's get real now. The CP FB page is just filled with ridiculous comments coming at the park in a negative way. Get real.

Time to build a new causeway and charge people $5 each way to use it. I bet the same people crying over a 3 hour wait to get out would rather wait than pay $5 to use the faster causeway.

The scary thing is (pun intended), there are still 2 more Saturdays before the end of the season.

Yes, but this was a beautiful Saturday, during Columbus Day weekend. This Saturday, according to The Weather Channel, is supposed to be High 56 degrees currently with a 30% chance of rain.

I hope it storms and tornadoes during closing weekend. Keep the crowds away.

Combined with the CBUS weekend and the good weather was the weather the previous weekend. The prior weekend had windows of no rain, but it was generally considered a washout. I'd have to think at least a notable % of people in the park Saturday were ones who may have originally planned to go the weekend before.

Let's not be wishing for storms. I am going closing weekend. I would like it to be nice. It usually is pretty cold at night.

Columbus Day weekend gives us the perfect example of the value involved with staying on point. How much would you have paid to be within walking distance of your room? I don't ever leave at night so I wouldn't know what normal traffic was like. At 5-6 in the evening it's an open road.

I, for one, welcome the storms. Ben, you can come hang out at the LHP cottage and grab a couple of brews and we'll look for waterspouts. :)

I just love how people this year are crying about it...It's been this way for many many years..If only people could see employee reactions on pages like CPEA, crew pages, ect...

In 2011 my gf came up to visit that weekend, ended up taking two hours to get from our parking lot near the toll booth to our hotel on rt 6/rye beach...Did I complain, hell no because I knew it was hella packed

Corkscrew, Power Tower, Magnum, & Monster/ Witches Wheel Crew 2011

The fast lane plus was $105 for one. I'm not sure of regular fast lane. I only know plus because we got it on Saturday lol

Sorry I didn't use quotes above for my post, I'm new to this. That was in response to the person who asked about the price.

Also, people must not get out much to other venues. Blossom Music Center is a absolutely miserable parking lot exit experience. Most of the time the CP lot isn't bad at all. If people were idiots though and crashing into each other in the parking lot as mentioned earlier, that would muck things up and certainly wouldn't be CP's fault.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Look for waterspouts? Ewwwww!!!! I hope you mean waterspouts on the lake instead of in the cottage.
