What is the oldest operating ride in CP? What year did it start operating?

The Midway Carousel has been at Cedar Point since 1945.

Cedar Downs is a close second, isn't it? I think is was built in the 1920s, and moved to CP a few decades later.

Cedar Downs Racing Derby came to Cedar Point in the 60's. Only 3 of its kind exist--the other two operate at Playland Park in Rye, New York; and Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Blackpool, UK. The one at Cedar Point operates with the horses racing--the other two rides feature stationary horses on the turntable.

Cedar Downns arrived at CP in 1968(?)from the now closed Euclid Beach Park which was located on the Eastside of Cleveland. I know for a fact it was there for at least 30 years, maybe there is someone out there who is a Euclid Beach fan.(or maybe we should just read the plaque in front of Cedar Downs:):))

I belive that Cedar Downs and the original Western Cruise are tied for 2nd behind the carousel. I'm pretty sure they were both installed in '64.

Sorry Captain B, as far as I'm concerned the Western Cruise DIED in 1986 when it was "transformed" to The PaddleWheel Excursion.
Sooo, while the PE Boats are still cruising the isladn or what is left of it, I do not think you can count it for this discussion.
In addition, your are also off on your history, Blue Streak was added in 1964.

Let's not forget the Sky Ride. 1963, methinks?

Good point. I was referring to the actual construction date of Cedar Downs when I was looking at the oldest operating ride. It's a debatable technicality ;)

I could be mistaken...but wasn't Space Spiral installed for 1961? Mill Race was 1963, I think, a year before the Blue Streak...but I don't remember my history well enough to remember whether the Sky Ride was before or after Mill Race.

I'm thinking the Space Spiral was 1965. Maybe 1966. My mind goes as I get older :) I used to know all of this off the top of my head.
The rest shakes down like this (from my shaky memory)
1963: Mill Race, Sky Ride
1964: Blue Streak, Western Cruise
1965: Space Spiral (?)
1966: Pirate Ride, Earthquake, Turnpike Cars, Funhouse (?), Cedar Downs (?)
Dodgem 1 and 2 were both installed in the late 60's. I don't know the year, though. Alot of the flat rides were installed back then as well (Monster, Rotor, Trabant all come to mind).

I was going to guess Space Spiral 1965, then realized that I can look it up. Sky ride is indeed 1963, and Space Spiral was 1965. Check out the history page here at GTTP.

WC was redone and the name was changed, but CP still counts it as the same.

Well, my vote for the second oldest ride at Cedar Point is the Kiddie Kingdom carousel. It was built in the 1920's. Let's not forget that ride!
