Old Threads Coming Back...

I see a thread was "brought back from the dead" and the person was lambasted and ridiculed for doing so.

May I make a suggestion, then, that all old threads be (closed) from further discussion? I mean, when is a thread is actually "dead"? Is it 15 days?... one month?... two months? And who gets to decide? Is it god?... is it Jeff? (oops, redundant)... is it you?... is it me?

Since there are no guidelines, I believe the poster is owed an apology for the two snide replies about posting to a thread that "died" back in December. We never received a death notice, nor was there any obit posted.

This is regardless of questionable CONTENT of the post itself.

I assume you are referring to this thread? The user made his first post on GTTP to an old thread and the post wasn't even relevant to the thread!

There's nothing wrong with replying to an old thread, if there's a specific reason to do so. Otherwise, just start a new thread.

"Questionable" content will be cleaned up - regardless of how old the original thread is.

I've had posts closed for starting a new thread when an old one from a few months back existed (before I realized that I could utilize the search feature...)...

I think, if there is a thread (even if it's nearly a year old) and it's on your topic, you should add to it and bump it back up...instead of starting a new thread, cluttering the board more, and not presenting the ideas of the people who posted way before you on the same topic.

I am not referring to this specific post, as I haven't even read it yet, but I'm being general here...old threads being bumped and better than a new thread on the same topic. Help keep your message board clean :-)

There's always a fine line between old and new topics, when to rehash, etc. If an old topic answers your question, there is no need to start a new topic. If you have something specific to add to old thread, go ahead. But make it very relevant to that thread and have a reason for adding to it. Having an old thread keeps the conversation old. New threads can help put a new spin on things. Just keep the rules of the road in mind before making any post.

There's a difference between "What is Freeway" threads within 2 weeks of each other and a topic of discussion that has been discussed before. Much of the current conversation has been discussed on some level in the past (midway music, Mean Streak rollback, Put-in-Bay ferries, HalloWeekends, etc.). That doesn't mean we need to go hunt down those old threads and then add to them ... unless there's something specific in an old thread to add to.

As one of the "lambasters", I'll defend myself...

1) As Gemini said, the post was totally irrelevant to the revived topic.

2) The post was just a bunch of nonsense about how SFMM is so much better etc.etc.

3) Sometimes, you have to have fun with the trolls, especially late at night! :)

unfortunately, the search feature everyone is referred to is not the best one I've seen....perhaps thats why no one wants to go searching for a thread that might have existed years ago for an answer...posting a new topic might be the only way togo..

Thanks for your typical lack of insight, Neo. The point was to not ressurect old threads, which you can't find unless you intentionally search for them.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

Jeff, I must agree with Neo. I have trouble locating past topics relevant to my search terms with the search here. I still haven't quite figured it out.

For example, when a search for "Midway Music" is performed, the topic "Haunted Places at Cedar Point" comes up, and after a review of that entire topic, the words midway and music aren't even there.

Actually, Gemini's sig file is a link to Virtual Midway...

And, this line comes from the original post on the thread:

Then there's the other hauntings. I didn't know that ghostly dancers and spectral ***music*** had been reported in the CP ballroom.

Just an FYI :-)

Good catch. I missed that.

Search tip: the default search order is by-date. By-rank produces much better results.
