Ok...yeah, this is sounding familiar. I wonder what other amusement park incident I'm thinking of...heck, maybe I just can't keep my news stories straight any more. Maybe I'll just go back to lurking until I fix that little problem. :)

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

The "official" explanation was vortex shedding (I think I've got that right). 0g pretty much got it. The sway of the tower hit a frequency that eventually stressed the metal enough for it to snap.
