I was at Put in Bay today and they have a raceway where I'm guessing you can race remote controlled cars. It gave me a flash back of an area at Cedar Point that had racing boats that you could control with a wheel and high/low gear. I always wanted to do this so bad but was never allowed. I think one time my parents finally let me and it seemed to be over super quick. Anyone remember where these were at? I can't even picture where water would be at, and where they were located.
At one point, at least one of these was installed in the lagoon approximately between the Corkscrew footers and where the entrance to Blood on the Bayou is now. I can't exactly remember what era; I want to say late 80s to early 90s, but I'm getting older by the day.
It seems to me there was a second installation elsewhere in the park, but I can't recall.
The 2nd installation of these was in front of Ocean Motion back in 1982. I used to "drive" them as a kid. If you do a search under "ocean motion photo" on Ebay right now you'll see them in a photo (in the foreground) that is being sold along with a pic of Ocean motion in the back. Hope that helps.
I remember those now, thought they were fun, but yes, the time you got to operate them was pretty short. I had not thought about those in years.

Wow you are good!!! 1982 makes a lot of sense as I was 6 so details are fuzzy. That photo is a great shot of them, and can't believe people are selling that type of stuff on ebay, too bad I don't have mementos like that!
A few weeks ago I found a home movie, taken in 1994, of these boats when they were located near Corkscrew. I always enjoyed driving these and also the radio control cars that were located somewhere near Kiddie Kingdom (I think).
Here is the video link:

Wow, I checked out the ebay picture, I had forgotten all about those boats. Don't remember ever doing it, though. Didn't it cost extra?

Yeah it was like 50 cents or something like that.
This is also the time frame where my parents would give me $5 or $10 on my trips.
I'd eat food, play games and get a plastic grape bunch shaped grape juice to drink.
And come home with change.
