Old News - New Article

Even though it is old news, I thought it was an interesting article.

Interesting to hear the city say they don't need the park anymore. Why don't they get as much money from the park? Less attendance or a chance in the tax structure?

I think what they meant was that in the parks current situation, the money they get from the park isn't that substantial. If the park were to regain it's popularity among familys, the city's revenues would be much more substantial.

Changes in tax structures usualy go up not down. I would say it's because of declining attendance and the fact that there are more kids and less familys going to the park. They got income from not only admissions, but the shopping that the guests would do in the area. Now that they have shifted the parks focus back to family's and gotten much of the Six Flags mess cleaned up, I belive Geauga Lake's revenue contribution to the city will grow back into something much more substantial.

"I like Steel Venom but I think it's an overrated ride and the line is usually too long for it," Dietz said. "Plus they have a ride at Cedar Point that is exactly the same it just has a different name."

What a horrible quote. This girl must be on something. I went to GL a few times last summer, in the middle of July at that, and Steel Venom NEVER had a line. In fact, it was walk on all the way. You would see a nice group of people boarding, but you never had to wait more than 10 minutes to get on and off.

I think if the City wasn't so dirty and run-down looking, and if the Restaurants around CP didn't have such horrible service and food... the City could do a lot better.
I know they're trying... in my opinion the City's looks have improved in the past couple years. Some of the new stores around look awesome, but I always dread eating anywhere around Sandusky!

What does Sandusky have to do with Aurora and Geauga Lake?

I guess I assumed that because this was "Point" Buzz, that the article was about Cedar Point, and Sandusky.

I love the quote from the kid who thinks Cedar Fair bought the park to shut it down. Yeah, because that would be great for the unit price!

Well, if the land ends up being more valuable than the park itself, I don't see why they wouldn't sell it. I highly doubt that would ever happen since there's really nothing in the area. But, you never know in the real estate market. Someone might come along and want to build the "Mall of Ohio". LOL!!

^The lake might make things difficult for a mall to be built. :)

There's no doubt that the land is valuable, but selling land is a one-time injection of cash, and that's only good if it's enough to cover all of the money you spent investing in it (and purchasing it).
