Anybody remember before cellphones were popular and Cedar Point rented out pagers for the day? Anyone remember what kind of system they ran, or how it worked?

I rented out pagers the summer I worked there, in 2000. People would have to come back up to the rental counter to have us send a page. We had a machine that we typed a message into, entered the pager number, and it was sent. Any technical aspects beyond that, I don't know :)
Evan it was probably a VHF or UHF system much like packet radio really. (Short burst of digital data or analog data)
I don't really recall the system, but it makes the most sense that it was just a tone and data burst.
You can pick up the paging system now using a police scanner. Seems to be mostly housekeeping related, but I know other departments have used it.
Yeah, I know they still have the frequency, its VHF. I didn't think they still used it though.
