The park put up the new signs because these new ones had information about who shouldn't ride, minimum requirements, thrill level, etc. I believe the new signs were put a little bit before the Cedar Point safety craze (circa autospiels, air gates, seatbelts, etc). So the new signs probably were pushed by both the state and the lawyers.
On a side note, I always thought the Jr. Gemini sign was a bit creepy.
