Old Cedar Point

Watching a few coaster shows and it shows Cedar Point quite a bit but different.
What was in the spot that now holds Raptor..Mantis and Millennium Force??And why did they remove some of the themeing behind DT??

The Wild Mouse occupied the spot of the Raptor lift hill in the late 50's. Then in 1963 the Mill Race was built in that spot. It was there until the 1993 season.
Ah.. Old Cedar Point... It is fun to watch the auctions on ebay because someone is usually selling an old park map/guide. It is funny and amazing to see the changes over the years.
Back to the question at hand, you heard about the Raptor area, don't forget the Midway Carrousel now located at the front of the park was also located right next to the Mill Race right in front of the bathrooms by Raptor.
Mantis was just a "vacant area" right before the ride was built. The Western Cruise boats used to go clockwise around the island and used this area. The WC station was moved to the Paddlewheel Excursion site when Iron Dragon was built.
The MF area was basicaly just trees with some "minor" rearranging; the train tracks were moved closer to the road and the trees cleared out, the Pet Farm Barn had to be moved to it's current site. The Giant Wheel was moved and had been located right near the MF line. The only "lost" item was the Chicken BBQ which hasn't reappeared anywhere in the park yet :(
The DT themeing never really "worked" there were all sorts of "problems" with the acoustics along with other sanfus. It seems once the Hallow weekends started using part of the DT que area as a haunted house, CP tossed in the towel on DT and just let run as is.
I know there are a couple of CP history sites out there one is "Gemini's" site (see his signature for web address), along with "Cedar-Point-on-Lake-Erie" check out is info for site address.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Raptor also caused the relocation of the Trabant and the loss of one of the two tracks of Turnpike Cars, not to mention the destruction of the original carousel pavillion (I hate the "new" pavillion).

What used to be on the site of Midway Market? That opened during my 2 year absence

The Trabant was actually located near the Scrambler. The Raptor forced the relocation of the Calypso.

The Chicken Patio and the FunZone Arcade was removed to make room for the Midway Market.

I always get the Trabant and Calypso mixed up. I rarely take the time to ride many of the flat rides at CP (for obvious reasons).
I enjoy riding Raptor but I really feel that CP lost a lot of its "old timey park" feel that used to be in that area. *** This post was edited by Joe on 7/27/2000. ***
Since it was mentioned...

The Trabant vanished before the 1991 season. That same year, the Scrambler moved slightly.

Schwabinchen moved to her current home in 1985 when Avalanche Run was constructed. That was also when the Wildcat moved, and the Rotor and the Bayern Kurve went away.

What I don't rightly remember were two dates associated with the Satellite Jets. For me, they were *always* back by the Blue Streak, about where the Calypso is now...but I remember at one point they switched from the side-by-side jets to the in-line jets, but I don't remember when...and I remember there was one year when I was really mad 'cause they took 'em out entirely...

The Satellite Jets left somewhere between 1984-1986. I know they were there in 1983 and I know they weren't there in 1987. They were originally on the Main Midway, on the present-day site of the logo flower bed (near the Coliseum).

what are the satelite jets?
The Satellite Jets opened in the center of the midway, near the Coliseum, in the early 1960’s. The ride featured twelve ‘jets’ that could be controlled to go either up or down while the ride was in motion.
