Is the flooding taking place all over northern Ohio? If anyone on here has been the victim of the floods I'm really sorry. Obviously CP didn't get flooded, but what about the areas around it?

Alot of areas in ohio are under alot of water. I think Putnum county and Bluffton got the worst of it. Tons of preseason football HS games are postponed because all the feilds were underwater.
On CNN they said that over 600 people were in Red Cross Shelters and wont get back to there homes (if there is any left) till this weekend.

Here's a question for the CP history buffs...Has there ever been any significant flooding at CP? I know when the rain is coming down it puddles up and collects quickly in certain areas of the park, but usually drains out pretty quickly.
The park seems to have a pretty good drain system, maybe this was because of past problems with flooding?

Lakes rarely flood though. And remember that Cedar Point is not artificially above water level (like New Orleans). So when it rains, it is the high ground, and the water drains into the lake and then that little increase is spread over the entire area of the lake.
A river on the other hand depends on the water flow to disperse excess water. So once you bottle neck or dam the river, you leave no room for that excess water to go but over the banks.

Yeah, I knew the lake wouldn't flood, but wondered it had ever rained hard enough and long enough for the drainage system to not keep up.
Nick
All I can say is, if you've ever been to Cedar Point when it has rained, you know that when it rains at Cedar Point, there's flooding. ;)

Can you see One-Eyed-Willie from the top of Magnum?
My parents' house flooded pretty badly in Wadsworth. The sewer system also backed up and, when it was all said and done, left them 6" worth of "biohazard" material covering their entire basement floor.
They lost all of their furniture, clothes dryer, 2 computers, all of their christmas decorations, carpet, drywall, insulation, you name it.
It was about $25,000 worth of stuff, and on top of that, they had to pay a haz-mat crew to come clean up and disinfect. That ran them about $5,000.
It's pretty depressing to go see that, but such is life, I guess.

So I live in Ottawa Ohio. Us and Findlay seem to be hit the hardest with this flooding. It was nuts here. We go a crap load of news stations here including Toledo, Cleveland, Chicago, The Weather Channel, even National News Stations (Wooo CBS Nightly News). We also got a visit from our Governor of Ohio as well as the Head of FEMA, who I guess approved federal aid for our region. I got a lot of photos, but here are only a few select ones that I though were my better ones.

At some points I was walking through water that was more than 5 Feet Deep so I could get these photos. Sure it may not be the smartest thing to be doing in dirty water, but I have captured memories for a lifetime. I was not effected to much by the flood, just my power was out for about 18 Hours. I am on high ground so there were no flood waters where I live. I have numerous friends and relatives though that live in the heart of the town that didn't fair as well. Fortunately nobody lost their lives and there were many helpful people getting stranded people to high ground. *** Edited 8/24/2007 6:19:00 PM UTC by BGRooDoG***

I feel bad for all of you going through the flooding, you are our neighbors just south of us.
How high were the water levels in Lake Erie with respect to CP in 1998? This was a very high water year for the lake and many places in the lake plane were flooded, some that had no past record of flooding. I think even SR 2 was closed during a "noreaster". Anyone been to CP during this high water event? Just curious, I didn't make it there that year, though I was along the lake nearby a lot.
yeah it was really bad here in findlay, we bacame lake findlay, and we telling everyone coming to town, "welcome to findlay here's your snorkel set."
