off-site vs. on-site lodging

We'll be coming up next week for our first visit. Aside from the obvious early opening for resort guest, is there really any advantage to staying on the property? Prices are running about double, and several of the close by hotels have free shuttles.

Also, Am I the only one experiencing problems with the online reservation system? I can't access it.

Thanks, our plan is to hit the park next Weds. & Thurs.

YES!!!! all cp resorts allow you to ride ttd or mf an 1/2 hour early to avoid long lines!!

Thanks for the quick reply. I know about the early entry, I'm looking for some reasons that I may not be aware of.

Your room is always within walking distance. You're not stuck to some shuttles schedule.

When you going for several days, sometimes it pays to go and chill back at the room/cabin for a couple hours. Grab something cold (and cheap) to drink and just kinda recharge. You can't do that, easily anyways, when your room is several miles away.

I would recommend LHP if you can still get a cabin. That place is loading up quickly as it seems to be one of the more popular on-point locales. If not there, Breakers is an excellent choice.

This year was the first time I opted for Hotel Breakers... I don't think I'll ever go back to on off site hotel. I loved that I could go back to the room and chill for a few minutes, didn't have to worry about driving to a hotel after a long day at the park, and didn't have to worry about lugging a bunch of stuff into the park with me, if I wanted to change into my bathing suit, or needed to get more money or bought some stuff I didn't feel like carrying around, I would just go back to the room for a few. Plus the beach is nice, and I thought it was great to look out my window and see the rides. When I booked I got a great deal so it didn't end up being much more than a regular hotel when I factored in the tickets and such. When I go in August I am staying at Breakers again, and this time it was cheaper than most local motels. So I loved it and would highly recommend it (in addition to the getting in the park early!!)

Hey Jillie, Jugga is right. Lighthouse Point even beats the Hotel Breakers. Try that next, you will not be diappointed.

I still remember the days when you were allowed to have tent in the campground, not many parks have that anymore and even Kings Island got rid of it this year. It was very nice cheap affordable place to crash at the point. LHP is definalty a good choice for a family to stay the night, but if you got a RV the camp ground is definalty worth it and defintaly resoniable priced.

Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.

Yep, what he said.

Prices aren't about double I'm sure. Just look closely at the total cost of your trip, and then consider the difference between staying at Breakers or offsite. Is the difference worth early entry, riding MF 3-5 times before the lines get long, and the convenience of staying right by the park? Being able to change quickly if you decide to ride some water rides or spend time in Soak City. For me the answer is always YES!!

I just got back from a cabin at Lighthouse Point. I definently recomend them. The loft is a nice touch and allows for a few extra (small)people if you so choose to bring them along. Looking out your window in the morning to a panorama of Magnum, Gemini. Mean Streak, and Top Thrill Dragster made it all worth it for me.

Thanks for all of the replies. Darth Snoopy, actually the lodging prices, after discounts, are 46% higher.

We booked the Breakers East/Towers package yesterday. The ability to walk back to the room at any point in the day made the deal. We'll cut our day at the RnR hall of fame short next Tues. to take advantage of the Starlight tix.

Now, what should we ride first...

I think Lighthouse point will be my choice when I go with a group of people, seems like a little too much, just for 2 people. They are nice though and I definitely plan to try them out maybe next year!

Glad to hear you have booked an on-site hotel! I'm sure you'll love the experience! Let us know how you liked it when you get back!

My favorite Cedar Point resorts are Lighthouse Point (cabins) or Breakers Express if you are on a budget. If you like nostalgia though you might want to consider Hotel Breakers, at least for one visit.

If you are traveling with children you may want to try Castaway Bay, which is a nice escape on a hot afternoon in the park.

You made the right choice going with Breakers. Enjoy.

I always ride Millennium Force first, and have ridden it as many as six times in the first hour, before lines get long. Top Thrill Dragster and Maxair will be the other two early entry rides. Top Thrill Dragster is risky for early ride time, since half the time, it isn't up and running right away. I'd say use a freeway stamp or just plan to wait in line later in the day if you see it running. Don't use ERT for Maxair. The wait won't really get very long for that ride. We got on in 25 minutes for our first ride, and the line was about 75 feet past the end of the queuing gates, so it moves really fast.

I'd love to be able to stay on site, but you have to have at least one person over 21 in your group. I sort of understand that they wouldn't want loud, obnoxious teenagers causing disturbances in the campground and such, but it's really disappointing that my friends and I can't stay on site even though we're all legally adults.

Are you sure this isn't the Atlantic Ocean?
