Now what happens to Geauga Lake?

Yes, a big chunk of it is that. However, the other part has to lie in the experience visitors have when they spend a day (or a couple of hours) at GL.

To be honest, I have never seen such a rowdy crowd. It wasn't in all areas of the park, either.
Jen and I chilled out over at the 3-point challenge game and watched for a while. The guys that run it really know how to get the crowd into it, and that gives everyone something to do.
In other areas of the park, however, people seemed bored and try to find their own things to do, and a lot of it comes down to harassing other guests and giving them a hard time.

Another example:

I was in the station for the big dipper with Jen, and we decided to get in the queue for the 2nd seat, as there was nobody in it - there were 5 people in the station total.

This lady taps me on the shoulder and informs me that her daughter is going to be riding in that seat, and she was totally in line for it before we were. Most of you know what a huge Dane Cook fan I am, so I looked at her and said "[Sorry, I didn't know.] She's standing over there. She's not committed to the line." and I politely moved because I didn't want to cause a scene. Well, I guess no matter what, I was causing a scene just by being there because I got the glare treatment for the rest of the night and well as a few idle threats that were made under breath.

Speaking of being rowdy and disrespectful.

Last time I was at GL just walking along minding my own business there were a gaggle of geese made up of the mother and about 10 or 12 goslings off to my right. Of course the girlfriend commented on how cute they were and I won't disagree. There's something about little feathered animals just learning how to walk that's pretty cute and humerous. Anyhow, next thing you know there's 3 kids over near them harassing them. Two of the kids just did it once and kept walking but the other little overweight, undercared for child decided to continue to harass them. I started to get pissed and told the g/f if he did it one more time I was going to say something...where the hell were his parents anyhow? Of course, he had to chase them around again. I stopped, walked toward him, and raised my voice a little so others heard me and he felt embarassed. I said, "HEY, KNOCK IT OFF AND KEEP WALKING." I think I took him by surprise 'cause he stopped in his tracks, turned and continued to walk away.

I suppose my point isn't that the crowds are more rowdy at GL but that possibly children need a better upbringing, especially in the Cleveland area. I've never seen so many disrespectful children and parents for that matter.

Ride on, MrScott!

That's a pretty inflammatory statement, Loopy.

And it has nothing to do with geography, unfortunately.

I suppose you're correct, Brandon.

I think I may have it figured out as to why it (children being disrespectful) seems more prevelant at GL than at other parks.

They get bored.

If it's too cold or too rainy to go to the waterpark then inevitably they're going to get bored and look for something to curb their needs. Chasing the geese would be one of those things I suppose.

Mike,

You're right also. Children EVERYWHERE need to have more supervision and reprimanding. It seems as though children are raising their parents and in turn walking all over them for what they want.

Alas, you're right. In a lot of the cases, it seems the parents are just too worn out from their frenetic nutcase jobs, so they just give in. The path of least resistance.

For as long as I can remember, we have had to share the park with the animals. There is just no way around it, as the location of the park is prime for birds, raccons, skunks, turtles, fish, rabits, deer, bats... you name it, I'm sure we've got some breeding somewhere in or around the park.

I was at Geauga Lake last Sunday and the area that used to be Hurricane Hanna just looks aweful. Also the Monorail hasn't been running for the last few months leaving me to believe that it won't be around next year. The good side though is, if they remove all that, there is a lot of room for a decent size coaster. One thing I was dissapointed in was that there was hardly any lockers for our belongings. I also think they charge too much just to use a locker. It should be the same prices as the lockers at Cedar Point. They need more lockers for sure though.

I recently talked to GL and they told me that they were planning to put a speaker system in the monorail so when the ride travels over the old waterpark area, it won't be so bad. They also said that they are planning to tear down the old waterpark, but they didn't tell me when. :(

So that might be why the monorail is closed.

Moving a waterpark is a big undertaking. I don't blame them for not moving faster.

I don't know about the rest of you, but i would much rather see a controlled, thought out expansion into that area over dropping in a coaster and calling it a day. When people think of the past and when they were growing up, this area of the park (Rainbow Island and the old Boardwalk) is exaclty what i think people miss from the old GLP. It was a little run down and gritty, but it wasn't cold and sterile like what replaced it.

They won't drop a coaster in there. It wouldn't make sense.

How, exaclty, would a speaker system help with the look of the old water park? I'm not following you on that one, Prisilica.

Sorry, I should have been more clear on that. When the monorail is passing over the old waterpark, it's going to explain the history of it. I'm not sure what it would say or how that would cover up the grossness of that area, but GL thinks it will help.

My question is why would they want to announce something like that? "To your left you will see what used to be Hurricane Hanna, sorry it looks so dirty and sorry it's not open"....lol. What I heard was that the monorail was having electrical problems and that's why it hasn't ran. Who knows too, they could have it closed too because they are getting ready to tear it up and start building for next year.

Doubt it. Tear up,yes, build, no.

A host at one of the resteraunts in geauga lake told me that they are trying to build the best water park in the world

The monorail has been nothing but headaces since it was re-routed (an in house job) back in 2000.

This was my first year for going to GL. I've been going to CP since I was a kid. I thought GL had great coasters and a great water park. I can't wait to go back.

Geauga Lake is truly a better park with the addion of the 4 new coasters that Six Flags bought. That was the best part of what Six Flags did to Geauga Lake. They made it where there is more to do during the day. The waterpark is awesome, I spend half my day over there now. I miss the SeaWorld part every now and then, but I like the WildWater Kingdom alot. I heard from one employee that the area of the old waterpark was going to be home to a new coaster. I hope this is true, because that would just bring more people to that side of the park.
