Nostalgia: Fruit-shaped juice bottles and crazy straws

After thinking about the old trashcan graphics for a while, I remembered going to CP as a kid and occasionally getting those cold juice drinks that were served in containers shaped like the fruit (grape juice came in a purple plastic grape).

I haven't seen these in years... does anyone know who the manufacturer was?

I remember those things too... can't recall the last time I saw them. I do remember that the juice tasted weird; too much sugar or too highly concentrated maybe. Not bad, just different.

I too remember them. Strange how the most absurd things stick in your head. Like the plastic zoo keys that triggered little recorded messages about the animals.

SFGA still sells them in the Golden Kingdom for kids. At least they did last year

I remember them from visits to Opryland as a kid. That would have been in the mid to late 80's. I don't remember them tasting weird, but then again when you are under 10 years old, the novelty of drinking out of a container shaped like a bunch of grapes is more powerful than bad taste of a overly-sweetened drink. In fact, being overly-sweet was always better at that age. Can we say SUGAR-RUSH!

I don't remember these at CP but I do remember them at Kings Island. I've been going to CP since about 87 and don't remember these ever but I distinctly remember having one at KI before.

hmmmmmrmm.... I have a Six Flags pass this year... I'm not sure I am ready to plan a trip from California to Jersey for a kids drink container, but if I have the opportunity to visit some of those parks I have never been too (Kennywood)... I will make sure to look for a piece of nostalgia while I'm there! Thanks for the tip! I hope they still have them.

^ My parents have taken me to CP every year since real early on... first year I can remember is 1983. I wonder if they dropped them by 1987, or if they were seasonal. I do remember that they weren't available all day--they seemed to come out on carts mid-day as the temperatures rose.

What other flavors did they have? I always got grape _anything_. If something was available in grape, that was the flavor I wanted. It is a good thing they never made grape hot dogs, because I would have eaten them.

OOoooh CP should start serving "Grapples"!

But yes, I remember the fruit shaped drinks and miss them dearly.

I too remember them from Kings Island, I think in the late seventies/early eighties.

Wasn't there a lemon shaped one with lemonade or lemon drink?

Yes, I remember a grape, lemon, and orange.

I remember them as well, but it was more of a fruit drink beverage, not juice.

I remember the orange and the grape ones. For some reason the memory of where they sold those were right next to the entrance for Jungle Larry's for some reason. I could be wrong about that.

I think they had a strawberry one too. That's the one that sticks out in my mind the most. Although I do remember the lemon and grape ones as well.

I know up until at least a couple years ago (the last time I was there) they still sold them at Kennywood near Pittsburgh, PA. They had a big wooden cart on wagon wheels that was filled with ice and they had all the fruits on display! they had apple too.

Maybe they can bring them back for the reasonable price of $8.99.

I forgot all about those things. We used to have a drawer full of those straws. I'm gonna have to ask my aunt if she still has any of the old containers.

I remember them. I really liked the grape flavored drink. I think Smith's Dairy made them.

Didn't the bottle have the Cedar Point logo on it?

Trent

Trent--I think it did... like a raised, circular seal on one side or something with an old-time logo.

I've been all over Google images and Ebay... nothing!

I bought my daughter an apple one at the cider mill this year becuase it reminded me of my cp orange juice drink. I loved those twisty straws
