Non-CP Lodging

So where's a good place to stay if I plan on doing a one-day visit to CP? Keep in mind that I'm paying for college at this point, so Breakers is too expensive.

I used to live in Detroit, so lodging was never a problem. But now that I'm in Chicago, I'd have to drive to Sandusky, stay the night, go to CP the next day, stay overnight in Sandusky again, then head back. As I said, I can't afford 2 nights at a place like Breakers. I'm thinking closer to Motel 6 here...

Any GTTPers know of a good place?

Have you thought about the camping option? We've stayed at a camp about 10 minutes away. www.campsandusky.com I think we paid $45 a night. The cabins are basic, but who needs more than that? Bring your own sleeping bag, an electric coffee pot, and instant oatmeal for breakfast. There's even a pool.
We got a Fairfield Inn room for 49 bucks, its kind of a no nonsense but clean place....we'll be there during Millenium Mania......minus the Millenium, of course...boo hooo!
We stayed at the Microtel which is just off of Rt 2 at Rye Beach Road.  Just a few miles from the park and easy to access.  The place is very nice, brand new.  24 hour pool.

We payed 80 a night but that was labor day weekend.  The regular cost is 49 a night.  Not a bad price.

The site is www.microtelinn.com

They are a national chain.  It was my first time there, and Ill definitely go back.

The ramada inn is awsome it is cheep and it is really really nice!!!

I know that you said you can not afford Breakers.  My advice stay at Breakers Express.  It is not that much more expensive that any of the other hotels in the area and the rooms are great and you can not beat the things that only Cedar Point can offer!
Try the Mecca Motel or the Bay Shore Inn (both owned by the same folks), on Route 6 (left turn off the Causeway when leaving CP--and saves waiting in line when everyone else wants to turn right). They are mega cheap after the season; in-season prices are really low, too. We paid less than $30 per room (with coupon from CP brochure)in late May, and one had a jacuzzi! There is free continental breakfast, and a cheap shuttle to CP (but we drove and parked instead). Also, they will rent to you if you are 18 and have a major credit card (or if your family will phone in the authorization). Some of the major chains ask if you are "over 25," or will have someone with you that age, when you try to reserve. Wherever you stay, enjoy your day at CP!
