No MFing MF today.

The computer doesn't recognize the lift...

Come on computer, it's that big, 310ft tall thing with the lift sled. You know, the hill?

=)

As a former artificial intelligence researcher (MIT and Xerox PARC), I can tell you that getting computers to recognize objects is one of the most difficult tasks imaginable. Think of all the different lighting and weather conditions under which that poor computer must recognize the hill - in strong daylight, in fog, in clouds, in rain, at night with confusing multi-colored lights. This job would challenge even the most experienced programmer. Don't forget that the computer, unlike us, does not have the advantage of hundreds of millions of years of vision evolution combined with a massively parallel image processing subsystem. No wonder the computer is moody, with such a challenging project for it! Poor thing.

PS: Yes, it's a joke.

CP fan since 68.
Yeah, I was aware of the SFO opening before I attempted to go, which I didn't. I did start heading up to CP yesterday around 1 in order to ride the force, but my car's exhaust pipe separated 2 minutes out of my driveway, and I had to turn around. I guess it's just not in the cards for me to ride MF this week. I'll probably come back to Ohio for a weekend pretty soon. I've got to ride this thing.

Bill--
so CP hicked the price of admission tiks for MF-
(you didnt use a discount Pepsi can?)
what would you like them to do
Call everyone who is planning a trip to CP or had already bought tiks and tell them that there is a chance that MF wont be running THAT day?
Give me a break
MF is the 1st roller coaster of its type in the world-cut CP some slack and just plan a trip on another day
or protest and never go back
(which is what I am doing about PKI and their stupid SOB)

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
Hang on a sec, LR...

I don't think that it's out of the question to have CP (like Disney does) put a notice outside the park that a particular attraction will be closed for the day/week/whatever. Granted, if I'm coming from Harrisburg, I'm going in anyway.

However, I'd guess that on any given day, more than half on the folks in the park live within a two-hour radius, it's entirely reasonable to expect that some would decide to come back on a day when MF was operating and save themselves the 40 bucks.

Problems with this scenario?

1) It doesn't make a lot of business sense.
2) Some segment of the population would still complain that every ride isn't running every day.

Coming soon to an amusement park near you.

Actually, the park did have signs posted at all the entrances on Monday morning. Unfortunately, the signs said "MILLENNIUM FORCE WILL OPEN AT NOON TODAY," and only much later, after thousands of people paid their $40 bucks, did they put put up signs that said "MILLENNIUM FORCE CLOSED TODAY." I called Park Operations on Sunday afternoon, and at that time they were not planning a delayed opening. Something broke late on Sunday, they thought they could fix it, posted the delay, discovered later they couldn't fix it, announced the closure, and people got pissed. I don't think CP did anything deceptive. They just weren't able to get the ride fixed when they thought they would.

Juat a thought, but perhaps when there is a problem, they should say it's closed all day at first, then later on, if they can fix it, they open it and everyone is happy.

I heard all 3 trains are running today
Can any one comfirm this
On Tuesday after the RAIN, MF opened with a 1.5 hour wait. They were running the yellow and blue trains all afternoon/evening. And I got to ride the yellow.

Oops... I rode it again! *** This post was edited by jonC on 5/25/2000. ***

There was a short article in the Sandusky Register about the prob. with MF on Monday, they said it was due to a problem with the circuits, and that the ride operator couldn't get the ride started in the beginning of the day... that's a new one!

Yes, ALL 3 TRAINS ARE RUNNING TODAY. My dad and I rode the first train today. Our wait for the 2nd ride was only 1 1/4 hours with the queue not quite filled to capacity.

I didnt say I didnt understand people being pissed off-I live 2.75 hours one way from CP and if my sole purpose had been to simply ride MF then yes I would have been pissed BUT---
why bitty to park operations was my whole question? Why curse out the ride ops-complain aloud-since it still did not make MF run???
And let me ask you this-if CP had opted to put the MF closed ALL day sign at the gates would you have NOT gone?
This SAME thing happened to me back in April-granted it is only a 55 minute trip but I drove to PKI JUST to ride SOB-guess what? NOT RUNNING! (Still isnt to my knowledge) I didnt complain to park ops-the ride ops-I simply decided that I KNEW I shouldnt have even wasted my time & $$ to BOTHER with that place-still TRIED to have fun
and swore that would be the LAST freakin time that park ever sees me. But to carry on about it-and especially to people who have NO control over the situation. If everyone remembers that MF is BRAND NEW-things WILL go wrong-but remember for the most part we all have gotten at least 1 lap in-and for the rest of you -- you will too-
remember that it IS worth the wait no matter how long you have to wait!
I hope I didnt piss anyone off with my previous replies to this topic!

Welcome back Raptor riders-how was your flight??
LuvRaptor...YES, I would NOT have gone, had they had the signs posted. I had 3 days to go this week, and I would have turned around and gone later in the week, had I known MF would have been closed that day. As it is, I had a week long trip to Ohio, a decent time at the point, but I'm still 7.5 hrs away from MF and I never had the opportunity to ride. In order to ride THIS YEAR, I'm going to have to make an unplanned trip back to Ohio, AND I'm going to have to go on a weekend. So basically, I have to use a weekend, and spend about $100 just to ride the thing before next year. And since I'll be moving to who knows where next May (I graduate college) I have no idea whether I'll be anywhere near CP to ride it next year. I really did have a very very tight schedule, with that week being pretty much the only week I could ride. Needless to say, I was fairly, no extremely, disappointed that MF was not open the day I went. Especially since it's the ONLY day it's been closed all year. :(
