No beard policy??

Thank you very much, I will look into that.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Not to turn this into a religous discussion, but Jesus Christ had a beard and I can think of no one else more suited to public service.

I used that argument when my beard came up in a performance evaluation a few years ago when I was working in HR for a major automotive supplier.

I won the argument.

I knew Jack Foster personally and we chatted often (weekly) I can't remember him ever having a beard during the season. Maybe I'm wrong but thats what I remember.

The only "thing" that was different as far as employee perks (back then) - was the "Hackett House" that's the small building that is located on the left side of the Gemini transfer track (it's a house) it was built by Emil Legros for Bill & Dorthy Hackett (they ran the laundry for a zillion years) and he wanted them to have a place to stay close to work.

You mean what is now the fire office? That building?

99er -

Yes - that was built around 1970 ish. About 8 years before Gemini. The Hacketts lived in it for number of years. When they retired it was left empty for a while. Then it was used as a "fire office"

Jack had permission to wear a beard in season, which I understood from conversations with Tom Layton, did so during the early years of the CP&LE. The last couple of years before his stroke he towed the company line, letting it grow in the off season only. He and Tom had a friendly rivalry going about who could grow the best one during the winter months.

Thanks Jim.

Dutchman - OK if you say so. Also I knew Tom well when he worked at P&D. The Carousel horses were his favorite job. We used to discuss how his son was doing - (Richard I think was his name?) I remember Tom's beard in the winter though.

I worked with Tom after he left the Point as well. We did a couple of Looff carousels, one of which I stayed behind and took care of for twenty five years untill the bank took over the family trust that owned it.They handed it over to Norton and the rest is history. Tom is retired and living in Utah now. At least one of his sons is carrying on the family trade now.

During the first year of Snoopy on Ice, one of the ice skaters in the show got away with a having a goatee nearly the entire season. A little bit of a ruckus was stirred up about the matter at an employee-management relations meeting. Even after the notes of the meeting were published for all of the company employees to read, this skater still kept his facial hair.
