newspaper rates coasters

if you are in the NW Ohio area, there was an interesting article in Sunday's Lima News. Two of their writers went to CP and PKI and rated all of their coasters...

Mean Streak:

"SMOOTH: Smooth, almost too smooth" Are you kidding me?

I'd like to ride that Mean Streak, it's obviously not the same one I rode...

and a very smelly armpit it is. I can smell em all the down here in Putnam County (gods country!!)

I wonder if these guys even rode the rides.

Vortex is one of the roughest steelies I ever ridden.

Their opinion of Mean Streak was waaaaaaaaaaaaay off.

Blue Streak has a little shake? They detected that on BS, but Mean Streak was smooth? I think BS is having one of its fastest and smoothest years.

Face Off is waaay over rated by these guys.

I think they are too much in favor of PKI. PKI is nice, but the rides aren't better.

The Beast was much rougher than remember it. Much rougher than the Son Of Beast.

Ok. Did anyone notice what they said about MF? "I've ridden in golf carts that were rougher". Whats that supposed to mean? I think that they were trying to hint that it wasn't very smooth. I'm not sure though, because I don't make it a daily habit to ride in golf carts. I don't really know if they're smooth, but I'm guessing that what they meant was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off from what us enthuiasts think about MF.

Also, what about "King's Island King Cobra was removed a few years ago". While that is still somewhat true, it's still exaggerated. lol. Honestly, do these guys even know what they are talking about? I say get a die-hard enthusiast to review those rides. That'll show em'....

No, they meant that MF was just really smooth. They've ridden in golf carts that were rougher than the ride on MF.

June 28th: LocoBazooka Tour (Sevendust headlining)
July 11th: Korn, Puddle of Mudd, and Deadsy

And they said "One loop and one corkscrew" for corkscrew, corkscrew has 2 corkscrews...
They should rewrite their MS review. It's too rough to fall asleep on; even though they said it was smooth. And it's not boring, either. Let's just say when the trim brakes are on, it has more "subtle qualites (in other words, it's not boring)."

If Columbus is the crotch, that makes Dayton the knee and Cincinnati the foot. Then Lancaster is the other knee and Marietta is the other foot. :)

Wow interesting to see what these guys say i mean airtime on DT You have got to be kidding. Anyway these guys are so far off what the average Joe non enthusiasts thinks its not even funny.

Welcome back Magnum riders how was your ride?
I think these guys have mental problems.

...And Sandusky is the head, and Cleveland and Toledo are the very broad shoulders.

I don't even think any coaster like DT can have airtime without leaving the track. Unless I am very much mistaken, any car I was riding in on DT does not leave the track.

I really hated that story. They have no idea what they're talking about. Son of Beast was below Racer, Vortex, Face-Off, Corkscrew, and Iron Dragon. That's just wrong.

I didn't think they were all that far off....okay, except for that "Magnum needs more hills to distinguish it from MF" thing. Now that was crazy. Wait, wait...the SOB rating was nuts, too.

They don't appear to be big PKI homebodies...look how much they preferred Draggin' Iron to Top Gun (Huh?) Maybe a little too much love for the Beast IMHO, but that's just a matter of taste. If you enjoy getting smacked around like a rag doll (and what Beast fanatic doesn't?), I guess MS really would be an overly smooth bore.

One more thing: I gotta say I agree with the high rating for Face-Off. Frankly, I'd rate it over FOF too. Am I partial to cobra rolls? Yep. To riding backwards through vertical loops? Duh. In fact, I'm hoping VF's heavily-rumored invert lacks a cobra roll so a standard-issue Invertigo would make a good choice in the future. Yes, you heard correctly.

Well I guess Ohio can't ride Wicked Twister then. :)

All I can say is we wrote what we thought about the rides we took.

Whatever parts of the article you don't like were probably written by Tom. Whatever you liked was probably written by me.

Seriously. The article is just two guys' opinions of the coasters they know and love. If you don't agree, that's great.

We just wanted an excuse to ride coasters and get paid for it.

However, I have to say that when we rode Mean Streak, it was pretty boring.

Welcome to the enthusiast world, where a differing opinion, especially from the stupid general public, is considered a violation of human rights and a threat to all things holy.
