I think Americans are just saying "Oh Well, I gotta do what I gotta do". Thats the way I have been lately, only because there is nothing that I can do to make it cheaper and I need to drive.

The US still has the lowest price per gallon for gasoline in the world. So, I'm not sure why everyone is complaining so much. Other countries combat the prices with higher efficiency cars and SMALLER cars. Not bigger ones like the US does. They also continue to invest in mass transit systems that benefit everyone.
Here in the caribbean, gas is hovering around $5 a gallon. Luckily our cars are small and we don't have to drive far.
Let's stick to the topic here. I'm happy to see that CP's strategy might be working. Hopefully they'll give some numbers during the press release on Tuesday.

I doubt you'll ever hear me complain about gas prices, but you can't really do a dollar for dollar comparison of gas prices between countries. There are a lot of other factors at play.

That's actually not true and hasn't been for some time.
Ok, how about ONE of the lowest. There are many many other countries that pay considerably more for gas. Sure, Venezuela, Mexico and other countries may pay less, but comparatively speaking, gas prices in the US are low.

Well when gas hovered just over $1 for much of the 90's and has jumped 250-300% per gallon at the pump in the past 6 years, I think we have a reason to complain.

March of 1999, the average US gas price was around $.90/gal. By March '00, it was up to $1.50/gal. In '01, '02, '03, '04, and '05, it was $1.38, $1.26, $1.62, $1.69, and $2.09, respectively, and up to $2.35 this year. Last week I saw prices over $3/gal for the first time here in North Olmsted since Katrina hit.
On a side note, it is really amazing how people's reactions to gas prices differ over time. In 2000, gas was becoming "expensive". In 2005, gas was "expensive", but "2000" prices were now "a bargain". Now, I bet we wish we could have early spring 2005 prices again.
And back on topic: I have curtailed my trips to CP over the past two years. I have a 2000 Grand Marquis (V8) and I used to just drive an hour to the park to just spend an hour or maybe less there and then drive home. Now I won't drive out there unless I can have a good 3-4 hours to use. Its just not worth the gas for me anymore to go 3-4 times per week.

One fact - 90% of the gas prices in the US include taxes! Take out all the state and federal taxes, gas would be about 1.00 / gal.
Even though gas (around here) is $3.15 - I'd factor in the price for gas to go to the Point. The park is worth it.
I'm very happy to say that the city I live in has the lowest prices on that list! :)

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
Well, if you want cheaper gas and are traveling North on I-75, stop at Beaverdam. Its about 5 miles north of Lima, Ohio and is a major highway Junction where US 30 and I-75 cross. It basically a giant truck stop with about 3 different gas stations (Flying J, Shell, Speedway). Yesterday I paid $2.65/gal rather than paying the $3.05/ gal in my town. I live 15 miles away from Beaverdam and that price difference is HUGE ($.40/gal difference).

I would never complain if it weren't for Exxon Mobil Corp and ConocoPhillips doing so well. Here in Michigan we're having a major crisis with unemployment. Basically, some people can barely get food on the table while these gas companies are rolling in all the money they're pulling in by taking advantage of the fact that American's need gas whether or not it is $1 or $4.
I'm just extremely happy to have a gov't that is stepping in.
I'm sometimes embarrassed at the state our country is in. What happen between 2000 and 2006? (I know, I know!!) :)

Since we are off the subject a little, all I want to know is how oil companies are having the best years as far as profits. To me it seems the rich get richer, while the poor go broke.
I see Gomez beat me to the punch!

Gomez, you've been off your game with spelling and grammar lately. ;) It is "they're", not "their."
But yeah, I smell something fishy with the oil.
