Don't count on that, Jugga. I have heard of many people being sued when someone is hurt on their private property. Trampoline incidents and pool incidents come to mind.

Yes, but it was the property owner's pool or the property owner's trampoline. In this case, it was the guest's motor home that exploded. Nothing on the site could have caused a leaking gas line as there is no gas provided at the campground.

Doesn't stop people from suing though. I've read stories of burglars filing suit against a homeowner for falling down their steps and breaking their leg during a robbery. This one instance, they WON too. The homeowner had to pay damages to the theif. Only in America.
The only thing a robber deserves on my property is a .44 inch wound between the eyes (granted, its much bigger on the other side).

I would like to help as well. Hopefully, we'll get some more details soon on where to send some money. I thought the story was disheartening to begin with. Now, with no way to get back, it's like adding salt to the wound.
Here's the info I have so far.....
I called the church back and they are accepting donations for the Gerling Family. They ask that you make checks payable directly to: First Presbyterian Church 35 State Street, Brockport, NY 14420. In the memo section of your check, please write "Gerling Family." All donations are tax-deductable. Please consider making a donation this family. Thank you!

After re reading the differing opinions over again, and some thought, it's my opinion the park should do absolutley nothing. Someone posted "stay away from this" (or something similar) above. It would set a precident
For them to pay the bill opens up the flood gates. Slip on your RV's steps and break your arm? I can just hear it in court, "The defendents paid for this, so they should be willing (or obligated) to pay for that."
CP has a legal team and I'm sure they will decide the same. Would it have been nice for the park to take care of the costs? Sure! Would it have resulted in great PR for the park? Sure! But in this day and age a company just cannot take that risk.
They would to have to pay (or take collections) for every person who stubbed their toe in Soak City.
And that's my final answer.

One thing for us to remember is that the $2500 it will take for transportation back is just a drop in the bucket. This family will need a lot more money for medical expenses and more.

Insurance that isn't willing to pay to have the kid taken back home (or at least to a hospital closer to home).

One of my best friends was hit by a car when she lived in NYC and was paralyzed. Her insurance wouldn't transport her to Ohio where her family lives so they could take care of her. So, the family rounded up enough funds and family to get her transported back to Ohio on their own. This is basically the same thing. The family just needs to put together a fund raiser or something and come up with the money. I truly feel for them, but sometimes you have to take care of yourself and not expect everyone else to do it for you.
EDIT: That being said, when there is a fund, I will gladly contribute. :) *** Edited 7/19/2006 8:54:22 PM UTC by halltd***

I got family in that area.So they are giving some money for me.
My thoughts and prayers are with the little girl that she can recover and once again have a normal life.
here is a can of worms to open, where is the dad during all of this? cant he pony up and pay they were with him after all and they are HIS kids too. i am not rich by any meens but i would send something if i knew the dad was doing all he could also.
as for the park paying that would be nice but they have to think of legal points of that mabe they could just set them up with a fully paid CP vacation once the girls recoupe.
As I understand it, the Dad was badly burned as well. Its him and the two kids that ended up in the hospital with the youngest having the worst burns.

Just a quick update. Teena will be transfered on Monday. It's likely there will be other needs and bills, so I will bump this thread and again provide the address for donations:
The First Presbyterian Church of Brockport
35 State Street
Brockport, NY 14420
The checks can be made out to the First Presbyterian Church of Brockport and in the memo area you need to write Gerling Family.
