Well, the flip side of the "not uncommon" statement is to say, it wasn't a huge catastrophic affair. Sure, it's common knowledge for enthusiasts that rides suffer various 'mechanical failures' from time to time. Usually, they're simple part replacements. "Mechanical failure" is just a general term slapped on to avoid discussing the specific problem.
To the GP, however, "mechanical failure" could quite possibly sound like something horrid had happened. It's a very vague term, and the "not uncommon" statement was probably used just as a clarifier.

A good point is that CP tries new things with their coasters, instead of copying them, *cough* Six Flags *coagh* its new technology and its going to have its down falls...Im sure it will be just fine.
Apparently he is only familiar with the Intamin Era.
