News: Cedar Fair, L.P. announces 2006 second quarter earnings

Mr. Kinzel said:
The decrease in revenues and the resulting decrease in operating income and adjusted EBITDA was primarily due to a decrease in attendance at several of our northern parks, including Cedar Point, Dorney Park and Geauga Lake, where heavy rains impacted operations in late June...

Is it possible that this ugly humid hot weather is making people stay inside?

I listened to the webcast, and that is where it was mentioned the GL was up slightly. I don't know why the written statement would differ on that. Did anyone else hear the webcast, and can verify what I thought I heard?

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I believe you Pete, the only thing that seems strange is that they would say two different things.

Pete, I just listened to the conference call, and they did say that GL's attendance was up slightly. It's just strange to me that they would portray the attendance so differently between the two. Especially when Mr. Crage followed up Mr. Kinzel by saying attendance was down at GL. Perhaps it's up for the quarter but down for the season, or vice-versa.

And a big "ouch" at Valleyfair!.

Very hot weather like we have had the past week or two is quite detremental for the numbers. All of them. Waterparks are nice, but people just don't walk around with money in their pocket, so opportunities are limited in Soak City.

Isn't it odd how people all think that this "terrible" economy is to blame even though all indicators point to a growing economy for a while now.... Hmmm
